Opportunity Overview: Chief Development & Engagement Officer (CDEO)
The Boys & Girls Club of King County is seeking a results-driven, innovative Chief Development & Engagement Officer (CDEO) to advance strategic priorities in resource development and marketing. The CDEO will oversee fundraising (individual, major, institutional, grants, corporations); marketing and communications; volunteer engagement; and community outreach and events. They will execute an integrated vision to attract, rally and sustain our diverse network of donors, partners, and advocates, working in close partnership with the CEO and the Board of Directors to collectively raise $15MM annually.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, self-motivated, skilled communicator that is experienced in utilizing marketing tools and systems to create compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences to drive action, as well as to create impactful events. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of securing major gifts and executing comprehensive marketing campaigns that enhance the organization's visibility and engagement with stakeholders.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build the infrastructure and team to carry out a well-crafted donor-centered development plan including donor cultivation and stewardship, major gift solicitation, government, corporate and foundation proposals, special events and the communications required to support these activities.
Build a Donor-Centered Strategy:
Lead efforts to create a new fund development roadmap, including a strategy that will work at the central level as well as at the local club level to build donor support and retention.
Lead efforts to build a sustainable fundraising program that prioritizes donor retention, stewardship, and relationship building at its core.
Lead the design and implementation of fundraising events, campaigns and other engagement events.
Implement and drive a partner strategy to gain critical support from community, foundation and government funding organizations.
Build and implement a Marketing & Communication Strategy
Create and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to elevate the mission, leveraging multiple channels of outreach.
Build a strong community presence, leveraging the Board of Directors and Club Advisory Boards to heighten awareness.
Work closely with external partners as needed.
Serve as the liaison to the Resource Development Committee of the Board of Directors.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal:
Frequent contact with senior management, Club managers, and Board members. Communicate to collaborate and create partnerships, to educate and persuade, and to solicit and provide information within scope of job responsibilities.
External:
Frequent contact with peers in other nonprofit agencies, major donors, and funders.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position supervises the development team including the Leadership Engagement Officer, Special Events Manager, and Donor Relations Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of fundraising, development, and communications in a nonprofit agency.
Principles and practices of strategic planning, project planning, and implementation.
Marketing, Fundraising, development, and communications best practices and current trends, including new media fundraising options.
Local regional, and national philanthropic arena, particularly as it relates to potential support for the BGCKC.
Ability to:
Manage and lead a team of professionals.
Identify, cultivate, and solicit major corporate, private, and/or individual donors and secure large gifts and grants.
Create high-quality fundraising marketing materials for a variety of audiences.
Develop and execute special events to support relationship-building and fundraising.
Articulate the B&GCKC mission, goals, and stories in a persuasive communication style, with well-honed relationship building acumen, both verbally and in writing.
Operate desktop computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and specialized software applications, in a network environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.
Experience:
10+ years of progressively responsible experience in development, 5+ years in managing staff, and 7+ years in marketing.
Skilled strategist and accomplished non-profit fundraiser with experience with individual giving (annual, major, planned, etc.), corporations, foundations, grants.
Experienced in building and sustaining productive donor relationships.
Outstanding oral and written communications skills across multiple platforms.
Education and Training:
Bachelors degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field required.
Licenses or Certificates:
CFRE certification is a plus.
