Position Overview
The University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) seeks an innovative and dynamic leader for the position of Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (School). The Dean will play a crucial role in leading the school to achieve academic excellence, foster student success, and promote faculty development. This position provides strategic vision and leadership in promoting the mission of the School while supporting UNT Dallas’ commitment to serving diverse student populations. Our core values – Courageous Integrity, Be Curious, We Care, Better Together, and Show Your Fire -- require us to recognize that first-generation and underrepresented students face a distinct set of challenges that are not limited to financial constraints, family support, academic challenges, and adequate resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate or terminal degree in a liberal arts and sciences discipline.
A record of distinguished academic leadership, teaching, research, and service that merits a tenured faculty appointment.
Minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role within higher education, with demonstrated success in academic administration and faculty development.
Demonstrated commitment to student success and results, with particular focus on the needs of first-generation student populations.
Strong financial acumen and experience managing academic budgets and resources.

Proven success in securing external funding and building partnerships in higher education.

Job Duties:
Leadership & Vision: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the School. Develop and implement initiatives to enhance the academic programs, reputation, and impact of the School.
Academic Oversight: Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student needs. Ensure continuous improvement in teaching, research, and service.
Student Success: Champion student-centered approaches to education and academic advising. Promote student retention, engagement, and completion, particularly for first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students.
Faculty Development: Support recruitment, retention, and professional development of diverse and talented faculty. Encourage faculty research, scholarship, and creative activities.
Curriculum Development: Lead efforts to develop innovative, interdisciplinary programs, curriculum enhancements, and experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for careers in a global society.
Pedagogical Innovation: Promote active learning pedagogy. Lead efforts to embrace students as actors in their own education, and emphasize power skills development, experiential learning, collaboration, and interaction.
Budget & Resource Management: Manage the School’s budget, resources, and facilities. Seek external funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and philanthropic support.
Community Engagement: Strengthen relationships with the broader community, including educational, civic, and business leaders. Collaborate with external partners to create internships, research opportunities, and career pathways for students.
Accreditation & Assessment: Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and lead continuous improvement initiatives through assessment of programs and outcomes.
