DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a Technical Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator who can work across multiple projects and multi-disciplinary teams within the Emergency Management and Response Office (EMR) in Alexandria, Virginia, as well as dispersedly located. As part of the EMR office, the Technical Specialist will support several ongoing FEMA contracts in support of Hazard Mitigation Assistance, the National Flood Insurance Program and may also be asked to support other contracts as needs arise. This position will join a collaboration of experienced planners, floodplain engineers, geospatial professionals, and project managers dedicated to serving our clients.
Review project requirements and confer with managers and technical staff to determine assistance required in project execution.
Coordinate or perform work to gather data and materials.
Perform research to support project task.
Provide technical guidance to client or other project personnel.
Interact with client to ensure satisfactory customer service.
Collaborating with other technical staff, develop novel approaches to solve problems identified during project/production activities.
Perform quality control procedures.
Create client communications.
Occasional to moderate travel may be required. Potential for deployment to provide post-disaster assistance and assessment.
Prepare and may present technical and program information to team members, management, and clients.
Work with other technical and administrative workers engaged in project activities.
Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry codes and standards.
Other duties as assigned.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 2-4 years of related experience.
Four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering, Geography, Planning, Emergency Management, Public Administration or related discipline.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident and obtain a Public Trust suitability prior to entry on duty (EOD).
Excellent oral and written communication skills, initiative-taking communicator and analytical person.
Strong mindfulness and demonstrated ownership and accountability for work.
Capability to work in a dynamic environment, including a demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of individuals from various backgrounds, including engineers; planners; GIS professionals; federal, tribal, and state government officials; and the public.
Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
PREFERRED
Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 20% and once travel restrictions are lifted).
Knowledge of HMA and NFIP programming.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $57,574.40 - $90,667.20 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
