Teens in Print
(TiP), which consists of a Program Director, two Youth Program Facilitators, and volunteers, is a writing and journalism program that amplifies the marginalized voices of eighth to twelfth-grade Boston students. TiP offers an afterschool program, an intensive six-week summer writing program, workshops for Boston teachers and community organizations, and an online platform for student writing. We strive to give students the tools to effectively share their experiences and perspectives through writing, the platform to reach decision makers who can act on their ideas, and the knowledge to become thoughtful consumers of media. The Road To College initiative at Teens in Print is growing. The person in this role will connect juniors and seniors with Bottomline, support their college journey, and improve the program experience. They’ll also manage student data, work with the Alumni Advisory Board, and build partnerships to strengthen the initiative.

Intentional problem solving skills along with consistent organizational skills

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The core responsibilities of the two Youth Program Facilitators are very similar in nature. It is to be determined how the two facilitators’ specific responsibilities will vary based on future programming and the incoming facilitator. In collaboration with the rest of the TiP team, and through ongoing training and support, the Youth Program Facilitator will provide:
Mentorship
Serve as a positive adult mentor for teen program participants by:
motivating students
modeling a positive attitude
being engaged, interested in and accessible to students
connecting students to additional resources to support their learning and growth based on the complexities they may be facing both in and out of school
Program Facilitation
Support the facilitation of programming for a cohort of students per program cycle (two cycles per year plus a six-week intensive summer program). This requires:
independently facilitating high energy, student-centered content for teens (all facilitation is in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and virtual run through Discord on Wednesdays)
co-planning and executing media literacy workshops in teacher classrooms
flexibility with daily pace based upon where students are in the writing process (early drafting versus push for final editing and publication)
Program includes evening, (some) Saturdays and summer events, such as hosting publication party during each program cycle, Rising Voices Awards, recruitment in schools, coordinating youth reporters at newsworthy events and hiring fairs for youth
Championing road to college initiative
Support students (junior and seniors) in their journey to college by helping them in their onboarding process with the college access and success programs of Bottom Line

Collect senior and junior data that can be transferred to alumni systems
Collaborate with program director on the support the alumni advisory board
Maintaining systems of junior and seniors data collection and student information.
Content Development
In alignment with TiP program objectives and with support from staff, create and enhance a diverse curriculum of engaging lesson plans and workshops that build students critical thinking, writing, and media literacy skills. All content must be designed for inclusion (specifically, for ELL/ESL and neurodivergent youth) and for a wide variety of learners ages 13-19.
Writing, Editing & Publishing Support
Provide both group and 1:1 writing support to students (guiding students’ thinking as they develop initial article ideas; offering instruction and support during research and interviewing; providing content and mechanics feedback on all article drafts).
Provide final line editing and fact checking for student articles pre-publication.
Coordinate the collection, reading, and editing of writing submissions from students outside the program for publication on the TiP website.
Edit and upload student writing and multimedia content to the online publication website.
Support the publication of three student magazines per year in coordination with the TiP Program Director and Director of Marketing and Communications.
Provide college essay writing support to TiP students and teens at partner organizations.
Communications & Operations Support
Support student recruitment by representing TiP during classroom visits, recruitment fairs, and other visibility events.
Contribute to TiP’s external communications, including social media and email content.
Develop and maintain systems around data collection and student information.

WriteBoston is located at 555 Amory Street, Jamaica Plain, MA. All WriteBoston employees must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Position Details
This is a full time, 40 hours a week position typically working from 10am – 6pm. Occasionally, TiP staff need to be available on weekends to attend recruitment fairs. Annual starting salary range of $49,100 – $52,149, commensurate with relevant work experience 4 weeks of paid vacation and 11 paid holidays, plus paid time off from Dec 24 through Jan 1
