The Director of Facilities and Transportation oversees all aspects of transportation, facilities management, building maintenance, and custodial operations for a one-building K-12 school district. The Director will ensure that all school facilities are safe, clean, functional, and efficient, while also managing transportation services for students. This position requires effective supervision of staff, budget management, and the development of procedures and policies to support the district's operational goals. The Director reports directly to the Superintendent and works closely with other district administrators and staff to maintain a supportive learning environment for students and staff.Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Management:
Oversee all aspects of transportation operations, including bus routes, schedules, safety requirements and training, and student safety. Ensure compliance with state and federal transportation regulations. Develop and manage the transportation budget, including fuel, maintenance, and staffing costs. Supervise transportation staff, including bus drivers and mechanics, providing training and evaluations. Coordinate maintenance and repairs of district vehicles to ensure safety and efficiency.Facilities Management:
Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of school buildings and grounds, ensuring all facilities meet safety standards and are in optimal working condition. Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans to extend the life of building systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural components. Manage all electronic systems including door locks, cameras, HVAC controls, electrical controls, and other systems coordination. Manage facility projects, renovations, and repairs in collaboration with external contractors and vendors. Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations. Collaborate with district administration to plan for future facility needs.Maintenance Operations:
Supervise maintenance staff and ensure the timely completion of maintenance tasks and work orders. Prioritize and schedule maintenance work to minimize disruption to school operations. Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies, equipment, and tools, and ensure their proper use and care. Respond to emergency maintenance issues and coordinate repairs promptly. Be the main point of contact for all outside vendors related to facilities and transportation needs.Custodial Services:
Oversee custodial staff responsible for cleaning and maintaining the school building. Ensure that all areas of the school are cleaned and maintained to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols, especially for high-traffic and sensitive areas such as restrooms and classrooms.Staff Supervision and Development:
Supervise transportation, maintenance, and custodial staff, providing leadership, guidance, and performance evaluations. Conduct regular training for staff on safety, equipment use, and operational protocols. Promote a positive work environment by fostering teamwork and collaboration among staff.Budget and Resource Management:
Develop and manage department budgets in alignment with Superintendent, Business Manager, and district goals and priorities. Ensure cost-effective management of resources, including supplies, equipment, and personnel.Safety and Compliance:
Implement and monitor district-wide safety programs for transportation, facilities, and custodial operations. Schedule and conduct regular safety inspections of all required systems and address any issues related to student, staff, and building safety.Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, business administration, operations management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role related to facilities management, transportation, or maintenance services, preferably within a school or similar environment.Supervisory Experience: Proven experience managing and supervising teams across multiple departments.Technical Skills: Knowledge of transportation systems, building maintenance, custodial operations, and compliance with relevant safety and building regulations.Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, administrators, vendors, and the school community.Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle emergency situations and make sound decisions under pressure.Budgeting: Experience managing budgets and resource allocation across multiple departments.Key Competencies:

This position requires availability for on-call responsibilities, particularly in the event of building emergencies, inclement weather, or transportation issues.Regular walking, standing, and lifting may be required in supervising and performing routine maintenance and custodial tasks.Requires use of ladders, rooftop inspections, and other physically demanding tasks.Salary:
Salary range $75,000-$90,000 depending on experience and qualifications.Benefits:
