Position Overview
The Area Power, Waste and Industrial Business Development Lead will leverage their industry experience to be responsible for coordination, oversight, and ownership of HDR’s KY/TN/AR-based Industrial, Power and Waste marketing programs and initiatives. The Business Development Lead will carry out and oversee business development activities in pursuit of planning, design, and consulting projects; and work with local, national, and market sector leadership in the areas of project pursuits, client development, strategic planning, development of annual and long-term goals, annual budgeting, program leadership, community, and industry participation, staffing and marketing training.
Key responsibilities include:
Leveraging experience and HDR technical expertise to identify integrated solutions that create a clear benefit for the client.
Working with the local team and company leadership to drive the top line growth of the business through establishment of new clients and increasing the volume and scope of services to existing clients.
Leverage experience and personal networks to work with clients to create opportunities to deliver and Lead business development activities through proposal and negotiation, culminating in new contract agreements.
Leading and driving our team in capturing and maintaining current knowledge of client needs, plans, and drivers as needed to track and proactively capture contracts and projects.
Demonstrate ownership of effective marketing program including monitoring of budgets and progress on annual goals.
Collaborate with Resources leadership and marketing support teams to develop proposals, communications, marketing materials, and brand awareness of our Resources service offerings.
Client management for select clients.
Tracking and trending the local and sector business environment through client relationships and industry involvement.
Identifying and teaming with strategic business partners for key pursuits.
Assist in prioritizing strategic hires, identification and recruiting of candidates for near and long term HDR success.
Listening to client’s needs, developing creative strategies, and offering effective and winning solutions through an integrated approach with HDR’s technical teams.
Project management for key client projects.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 7 years progressive experience in a role focused on understanding and solving client issues in the power, industrial and/or waste markets.
Existing and current network of private clients with emphasis on area-based clients including utilities, municipalities, industrial, waste and/or institutional clients.
Excellent marketing and business development skills with demonstrated history of successful leadership of major BD strategies and ability to establish new business relationships and closing business deals.
Strong leadership, planning, organization and listening skills.
Proven ability to develop and maintain clients in consulting industry.
Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, area, technical managers, and project staff.
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated "self-starter" with a history of completing projects with limited oversight.
Deep knowledge of the A/E/C industry's standard approach to procurement of professional services.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others.
Demonstrated ability to build a network of clients and industry partners.
Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies.
Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability and desire to travel and engage with others in-person.
Demonstrated experience in writing compelling content based on information from technical staff.
