OVERVIEWThe Distribution Center (DC) Director is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the DC’s operations to ensure on time delivery of all shipments, efficiency, productivity, and compliance with company policies and industry standards. This role is critical for driving performance and throughput capacity, overseeing inventory management, coordinating inbound and outbound logistics, and ensuring that goods are processed and shipped on time to meet customer demands. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and an in-depth understanding of supply chain, logistics, and warehouse management.
RESPONSIBILITES
Operational Leadership
Oversee day-to-day operations within the distribution center, including receiving, warehousing, picking, and shipping functions.
Establish operational goals, monitor performance metrics, and implement strategies to enhance productivity and service levels.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including inventory control, procurement, and customer service, to streamline processes.
Effectively manage all value-added services programs.
Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, including managers, supervisors, team leaders and warehouse associates.
Conduct performance evaluations, establish clear performance expectations, and identify training opportunities to foster growth.
Ensure staffing levels meet demand and seasonal variations while considering labor cost control.
Inventory and Warehouse Management
Maintain accurate inventory records and minimize inventory discrepancies through regular cycle counts and audits.
Implement best practices in inventory storage, order fulfillment, and returns processing.
Work with regional safety/security personnel to ensure the safety and wellbeing of associates and also compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
Financial and Budgetary Oversight
Manage the distribution center’s budget, including labor, equipment, and operational costs.
Identify cost-saving as well as demand growth opportunities and drive operational efficiencies and throughput without compromising quality and service.
Prepare financial and performance reports for senior management.
Process Improvement and Strategy
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows, increase throughout and reduce waste within the distribution center.
Evaluate and implement new technologies and systems (e.g., WMS, automation solutions) that enhance productivity and accuracy when inreiduced.
Stay updated with industry trends and best practices to recommend strategic changes for sustained growth.
Customer Service and Compliance
Ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately and shipped on time to maintain high customer satisfaction.
Oversee quality control procedures to minimize shipping errors and manage customer returns efficiently.
Ensure compliance with legal regulations and company policies regarding safety, labor, employment development and environmental practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
5+ years of experience in distribution or warehouse management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Proficient in warehouse management systems (WMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
Strong knowledge of supply chain processes, including receiving, storage, inventory control, order processing, and shipping.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
Familiarity with lean management, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
Working Conditions
This position is based in a fast-paced distribution center environment and may require occasional evening or weekend work to meet operational demands. The role may involve some physical activity, such as walking or lifting items.
