The Empath Health Chief Philanthropy Officer (“CPO”), reports to the Empath President and CEO and serving as a key member of the Empath Senior Leadership Team, leads the development and implementation of an Empath Health system wide Philanthropic Strategic Development Plan in coordination with Empath’s affiliate supporting foundations.The Empath Health Chief Philanthropy Officer (“CPO”):Promotes and practices the mission, values, policies and procedures of Empath Health.Provides strategic leadership, vision, and management for the growth and sustainability of Empath Health’s culture of philanthropy.Develops a strategic philanthropy plan with short-term and long-range goals for philanthropy programs – with a focus on major and planned giving from individuals, corporations, foundations, organizations and others – to effectively advance funding priorities.Oversees and leads strategy and a high-level of personal engagement with select current and potential philanthropic partners, the Empath board, the President & CEO and Empath senior leaders.Collaborates closely with the President and CEO, to develop strategies to bring transformational gifts to Empath Health.Provides information and recommendations to the Empath & affiliate foundation boards with respect to the creation of policies, programs and strategic direction of Empath Health’s philanthropy efforts.In partnership with the affiliate foundation market leaders, builds relationships with these leaders and foundation boards across Empath Health and individual markets to identify projects and opportunities for funding while bringing key partners together.Provides high-level coaching, guidance, education, support, and leadership to the philanthropy and foundation senior leaders to help them fulfill their role in advancing market philanthropy.Optimizes financial resources including the development and implementation of an annual Empath philanthropy budget to be mindful of fundraising expenses while achieving philanthropy goals.Manages a high-level personal portfolio of individual, corporate, foundation and/or major gift donors and prospects.Tracks industry trends, strategy, and best practices, including educating others and evaluating opportunities for continuous philanthropy improvement across Empath and its affiliate foundations.Leads Empath’s Foundation Systemization efforts including enhancement of collaboration efforts across Empath’s affiliate foundations, standardize philanthropy mission support services, development of philanthropy best practices, creation of philanthropy standards of excellence, and facilitating strategic planning and goal setting (short and long term) to support peak performance across affiliate foundations.Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience as a philanthropy executive within a sophisticated and comprehensive development program. This includes: A proven track record in systematic and measured major and principal gift fundraising. At least five years in a senior executive role, such as Chief Philanthropy Officer, Foundation President, or VP of Philanthropy. A minimum of five years of recent development experience in a health care system or facility.Financial Management: Direct experience managing foundation assets of $100 million or more.Fundraising Success: Demonstrated success in orchestrating, soliciting, and closing principal and major gifts at the six, seven and eight figure levels.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree or other advanced degree.Professional fundraising certification (CFRE or FAHP).This position has the ability to be located within the Empath service area.Empath Health values diversity as it strengthens our community and care.
