Structured as a matrix organization of six geographical regions and ten platforms, Louis Dreyfus Company is active in over 100 countries and employs approximately 18,000 people globally.Job Description:This position coordinates shipping and receiving operations and directs inbound and outbound grain shipments at a high-capacity export grain elevator for a global merchandiser and processor of agricultural goods.Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Rail Unload Operations:Performs daily rail unloading operationsProcesses car lists and grade information on incoming trains from the web and Kansas City officeWrites up track list of inbound railcars and enters them into a computerCollects grain samples as neededEnters grain grade details into the inventory systemReleases empty railcars from the railroad website and elevator computer systemShip Loading Operations:Monitors ship loading activitiesMeets the load order requirements and adjusts stocks in the inventory program dailyBlends grain and communicates with the stevedores who load grain to ensure that instructions on load orders and practices set forth in the U.S. Grain Standards Act are followedSafety and Administrative Operations:Performs inspections in the elevator including safety, housekeeping and mechanical equipmentInspects rail yards and grounds around the facilityEnsures that all safety equipment is in good working orderWorks with maintenance personnel to schedule work to be performedIssues required Company permits for required tasksIndoctrinates new laborers as neededConducts safety meetings and monitors elevator employees and outside contractors to ensure that all safety and Company policies are followedData entry of Longshore payroll to the PMA on a weekly basisAssists the management team in maintenance, logistics and overall operations as neededCompany Conformance Statements:In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervisionInteract professionally with co-workers, Company business associates and the general publicWork together in a cooperative spirit to serve the best interests of the CompanyOperate in a fully responsible manner and comply with the law and Company policyEducation/Professional Certifications/Licenses:High school diploma or GEDValid Driver’s licenseAbility to obtain TWIC CardPreferred Qualifications:College degree in a related discipline (industrial/maritime/agriculture curriculum)Some continuing education (e.g., industrial safety and environmental related subjects)Experience:With degree in a related discipline, no experience necessaryTwo (2) plus years of prior supervisory experience in manufacturing/production/receiving operations, including responsibility for meeting production and safety standardsPreferred Qualifications:One (1) plus year of experience in grain handling operations (preferably in a supervisory role)Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands):Proficiency with MS Word and ExcelStrong leadership skillsBasic understanding of operational equipmentGood communication skillsAbility to withstand long periods of walking or standingAbility to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at extended heights of 175 feet, manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing, and move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more, which requires regular bending and liftingRequires climbing fixed ladders or stairs, boarding cargo ships, walking on loading docks which may be wetPreferred Qualifications:In lieu of degree, knowledge of OSHA and other safety practices (preferably that pertain to grain elevators)In lieu of degree, demonstrated ability to achieve operating efficiencies while maintaining strong labor relationsIn lieu of degree, understanding of general terms of collective bargaining agreement(s)Understanding of logistics (e.g., vessel, rail or truck) and inventory managementKnowledge of USDA/GIPSA Grain Standards Act for an export terminalKnowledge of grain commodities and gradesWhat We Offer:We provide a dynamic and stimulating international environment, which will stretch and develop your abilities and channel your skills and expertise with outstanding career development opportunities in one of the largest and most solid private companies in the world.Comprehensive benefits program including medical, dental and vision care coverage, flexible spending account plans, employee assistance program, life insurance and disability coverage401k with Company MatchFamily Friendly Benefits including childbirth and parental leave, fertility and family building benefitsPaid Time Off (PTO) and Paid HolidaysFlexible work available (not applicable to all roles)Diversity & Inclusion:LDC is driven by a set of shared values and high ethical standards, with diversity and inclusion being part of our DNA.
