Description:
The Director of Quality and Food Safety is responsible for the ultimate oversight of quality and sanitation personnel operations, quality and sanitation systems management, and food safety/regulatory management.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or similar degree
Minimum 5-10 years food quality experience
Knowledge of BRC audit schemes
Internal Auditor Certified
PCQI Certified
HACCP Certified
Work Hours:
40-45 hours per week (Monday - Friday):
Office Standard Hours: Between 7:00am - 5:00pm
Occasional time required on second and third shifts
Considered on call 24/7 when plant is operating
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role utilizes standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines) and requires some work to be completed on the factory floor. Occasional travel is required.

Comprehensive in proper laboratory testing techniques and procedures

Core Expectations:
Train and enforce GMP and Food Safety compliance
Assure 100% HACCP compliance with CCP procedures and documentation
Maintain excellence in food safety and quality of the product thru education, familiarity with policy and products, instruction to all plant personnel
Assure product quality specifications at all times by overseeing Laboratory
Maintain QA procedures and policies
Ensure internal scheduled inspections, audits, and production release authorizations are maintained
Maintain proper staffing in quality and sanitation departments
Populate and distribute reports, questionnaires, applications, etc. as required by customers
Oversight of Quality Compliance
Sign off as PCQI on production, sanitation, and quality documentation for FSMA compliance
Is considered on call 24/7 with an average work week of 45 hours at the plant, spending approximately 30% or more of that time in the lab or on the production floor and 70% in the office.
Expected to work at least eight hours per month on each 2nd and 3rd shifts in blocks of time no less than four hours; being present in the plant and lab interacting with lab and plant supervisors and staff.

Assist as needed and participate in all scheduled company outings and social events, not only as a manager but also as a representative of Snack Craft.
Follow and Enforce all OSHA Safety Regulation and Safety Rules.
Investigate and Correct safety concerns as a safety committee member.
Duties:
Obtain continuous education for career and personal development
Search out and make recommendations for department improvements and food quality implementations
Oversee Non-Conformance and Hold program
Review hold products and ingredients and make dispositions
Drive continuous improvement through education, training and customer relations
Customer Complaint Program
Maintain log of all received customer complaints
Investigate and respond to customer complaints as needed
Complete CAPA reports for complaints as needed
Work in collaboration with R&D to conduct and record Ingredient Hazard Analysis
Vendor Complaint Program
Maintain all outgoing vendor complaints
Review and approve returned corrective actions from vendors
Vendor Control Program
Maintain supplier documentation along
Review and approve incoming COAs
Oversee Identity Preserved Program for Gluten Free, Organic, Non-GMO, and Kosher
Ensure compliance with FDA, MDARD, GFSI and customer audits
Develop and assist management group with program implementation based upon regulatory and certification needs
Act as a liaison in Regulatory, 3rd Party, Customer Inspections, and for Identity Preserved Certifications
Perform corrective action investigations resulting from customer requests, audit results, and internal process deviations
Internal Audit Program
Maintain Internal Audit Program
Perform monthly internal audits on programs
Partake in monthly facility and processing audits
Perform Corrections, Corrective Actions, and Gap Assessments on findings
Maintain customer relationships
Review and verify Preventive Controls documentation originating from production, quality, and sanitation
Review documentation monthly as part of the Document Control Program
Perform annual BRC training
Lead Food Safety team meetings
Hire and discipline quality and sanitation staff as needed
Water and Air Quality Program and Environmental Monitoring Program
Development and implementation of the program utilizing internal labor and 3rd party services
Oversight of contract and legal requirements for those 3rd party services
Scheduling and coordinating test locations and sample collection
Development and training of the Standard Operating Procedures relevant to the program
Review of monthly and quarterly reports and trend reports on the effectiveness of the program
Mitigation of positive recovery incidents as they occur
Product Sample Submission
Oversight of the collection and shipment of product samples to customers upon request or at pre-established frequencies
Maintain the product sample retain program
Production Support
Attend Daily Vital Signs meetings
Attend huddles as necessary
Oversee quality compliance adherence
Responsible for final production sign offs for positive release program
