The Assistant Director of Career and Student Support Services provides a university-wide approach to career services, life coaching, and disability support services for the holistic development and advocacy of undergraduate students. This Assistant Director will provide students with opportunities for self-appraisal and the evolution of life-call through assessments, workshops, and campus programming and will facilitate career networking through internships, electronic posting boards, and career skills coaching. The Assistant Director of Career and Student Support Services also will build and maintain relationships with organizations to establish internship and career opportunities for students. This Assistant Director will collaborate with and support the Director of Academic Success and Advising in the assessment and implementation of student accommodations requests. The Assistant Director will support undergraduate advising efforts as a functional member of the Academic Success and Advising department.This is a full-time (1.0 FTE).Essential Functions
Offer individualized assessment and coaching for student and alumni vocational self-appraisal and career development including the following:Identify and articulate passions, interests, skills, values, strengths, and personal attributesClarify career and life goalsDecide on a major(s) and/or minor(s)Obtain related occupational and career informationDevelop a career planAcquire essential job search skills to successfully achieve career placementProvide career networking, placement opportunities and career assessment/coachingDevelop, promote, and conduct campus wide professional readiness programming which may include (but not be limited to):Administration and maintenance of NU’s Handshake accountAdministration and maintenance of NU’s Professional Readiness courses and certificates (including the recruitment, selection, and support of instructors for PR classes)Development and maintenance of a Professional Readiness “Passport” initiativeSupport and foster collaborative work with faculty to locate and secure program-appropriate internship opportunities for undergraduate studentsWebinars, internship fairs, and other programming and events.Work collaboratively with the Director of Academic Success and Advising to administrate and maintain disability and support services for students of all NU programs and modalities, with a primary focus on Kirkland undergraduate:Receive, assess, implement, and document accommodations requests from studentsServe as a resource and point of support for students considering accommodationsStay informed on current resources best suited to support the university’s efforts to provide equitable access to all learning activities, residential services, and campus programs.Cross-train on academic advising tasks and work collectively with academic advising staff to support departmental efforts and activities directed toward the academic advising of undergraduate students.Develop measurable department outcomes along with appropriate assessment methodology, and report outcome data annually.Education/Experience/Skills
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required.Three (3) or more years’ experience working in Career Development, Student Development, Human Services, Counseling, or related field.High level of initiative, planning and organizational skills.Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written modalities, get along well with co-workers, and work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree preferred in Career Development, Student Development, or a related field.Five (5) or more years’ experience working in Higher Education in Career Development, Student Development, Human Services, Counseling, or related field.Demonstrated experience in career networking across multiple organizations.Demonstrated proficiency in program evaluation.Two (or more) years’ experience in Disability Support Services.Work is generally performed indoors in a typical office setting.Travel, including overnight travel, may be required.Position works with strictly confidential information.Requires work in outdoor weather conditions, including wet, extreme cold, and extreme heat.Frequently required to be in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.Physical Demands
The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing, and speaking are also required.Compensation
Based on education and experience, the compensation range starts at $22.50/hour to a median of $23.81/hour.Lifestyle Standards
