Summary : Control and coordinate all aspects of construction project(s) including manpower, materials and equipment. Control scope and minimize scope changes. Perform constructability review of conceptual designs, bids and construction packages to support engineering, scheduling and estimating activities. Provide direction to the craft work force to meet quality requirements, safety goals, human performance expectations, costs, schedules and design requirements. Coordinate job planning, work methods, sub contracts, equipment usage and rentals, procurement of supplies and tools. Responsible for fabrication, material acquisition, expediting, material issue and storage.
Essential Functions :Responsible for completion of construction activities; implementation and operation of Safety and Human Performance Programs. Provide technical direction and leadership involving critical and/or complex components of the assigned work scopes.Personally engage in field walk-downs of planned and ongoing craft and construction activities. Perform inspection of work in progress to assess status and resolve problems first hand.Review and approve Project/Site Procedures, constructability of work packages and incorporation of design requirements; interpret production goals from work packages for craft supervisors, ensuring full understanding to enable daily communication of productivity goals to crews executing the work; interpret design/drawings for crafts installing material; research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors; verify that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings and specifications.Keep management and customer informed of changing field conditions.Develop project work plans and schedules. Manage multiple supervisors and craft workers, while setting the standards for safety, human performance, production and quality. Maintain effective labor relations.Monitor scope, scope changes, and schedules to ensure construction objectives are met.Responsible for development, control and implementation of procedures and the operations of fabrication facility, material acquisition activities, subcontracts, hazardous materials control program, material storage/control and issuance.Lead the team in project planning, value-added engineering means and methods, developing work packages and preparing key performance indicators/benchmarks, and developing the master schedule.Ensure proper environmental permits are in place (identify any state or local laws relating to environmental compliance); educate team to ensure understanding and compliance with permit requirements.
Technical Skills :Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, and standards.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficient knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook and database applications.
Behavioral Skills:Make decisions and recommendations which can greatly impact corporate relationship with customer and project profitability.Strong interpersonal skills such as tact and diplomacy.Demonstrate a motivation to provide fast, accurate and complete customer service at all times to all employees and management.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive material.Ability to apply organizational skills when given a project; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.Must be able to motivate and manage individuals to accomplish departmental goals.Use resources effectively to generate solutions; take initiative when resolving problems.
Physical Requirements:Ability to physically climb stairs, balance on scaffolding, access small, confined spaces and work in excessive heat and/or cold environments due to site visits.May work in an office environment and/or on the project site.Ability to travel to job sites.Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.Ability to type on a keyboard.Ability to converse over a telephone.Ability to travel.
Education:
Associate’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management required; equivalent experience considered at the discretion of management.
Experience:
Ten plus years experience in construction, design, finance, and/or management required.
Special Requirements:Must be willing and able to travel to customer sites within NC, SC, and VA for extended periods of time.Must meet and abide by all customer requirements, including policy and access requirements.May require ability to be badged at customer sites, including, but not limited to, U.S. commercial nuclear and non-nuclear power plants.
