Project Success is looking for two Choreographers – one for our annual musical at Northeast Middle School and one for our first musical at Andersen United Middle School. The production at Northeast Middle School is

This is an independent contractor position.Project Success is a nonprofit youth development organization that helps students connect to their purpose. We work with more than 16,000 6th-12th grade students and their families annually and have more than 225,000 alumni around the world. Learn more at projectsuccess.org.Project Success produces musicals at four Minneapolis Public middle schools: Sanford, Northeast, Andersen United, and Anwatin. We cast 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in each show. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of theatrical experiences. For many, the Project Success musical at their school is their first opportunity to be in a show! We utilize the power of theater to inspire, build community, act as a springboard for discussion, and encourage students to tell their own stories.Core ResponsibilitiesChoreography:Assist with running auditions and casting the showCreate original dances/blocking for the show’s musical numbersTeach all choreographed numbers to the castFoster students’ talents and confidenceCreate an inclusive and accessible environment at rehearsalCommunication:Work in close collaboration with the Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Technical Director, and Senior Program Manager – MusicalsBuild and nurture trusting relationships with young peopleInteract with school partners and familiesThis position reports to the Senior Program Manager – MusicalsScheduleRehearsals after school, Monday through Friday, from 3:20 pm - 5:40 pm (3 days a week)Four tech rehearsals from 3:20 pm-6:40 pmTwo performance dates including two school matinees and two evening performancesAdditional time commitment of 1-3 hours per week to plan actor blocking, create weekly rehearsal schedules, make production documents (e.g., mic lists, prop needs), and attend a production meeting the week before auditions.
