Project Success is looking for a director for our musical production of
Moana Jr.
at Anwatin Middle School. This is an independent contractor position.Project Success is a nonprofit youth development organization that helps students connect to their purpose. We work with more than 16,000 6th-12th grade students and their families annually and have more than 225,000 alumni around the world. Learn more at projectsuccess.org.Project Success produces musicals at four Minneapolis Public middle schools: Sanford, Northeast, Andersen United, and Anwatin. We cast 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in each show. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of theatrical experience. For many, the Project Success musical at their school is their first opportunity to be in a show! We utilize the power of theater to inspire, build community, act as a springboard for discussion, and encourage students to tell their own stories.Core ResponsibilitiesTheatrical Direction:Overseeing the artistic vision and direction of the productionAssist with running auditions and casting the show alongside the Senior Program Manager - MusicalsCreate effective and efficient rehearsal schedules weeklyDevelop and teach blocking for all scenes and select musical numbersFoster and empower students’ talents and confidenceCreate an inclusive and accessible environment at rehearsalCommunication:Work in close collaboration with the Music Director, Assistant Director, Choreographer, Technical Director, and Senior Program Manager – MusicalsBuild and nurture trusting relationships with studentsThis contract position reports to the Senior Program Manager – MusicalsScheduleRehearsals after school, Monday through Friday, from 3:20 pm - 5:40 pm (5 days a week)Four tech rehearsals from 3:20 pm - 6:40 pmTwo performance dates including two school matinees and two evening performancesAdditional time commitment of 1-3 hours per week to plan actor blocking, create weekly rehearsal schedules, make production documents (e.g., mic lists, prop needs), and attend a production meeting the week before auditions.
