Assistant Director, Student Disability Services , will assist in the overall operations of the Disability Services Office (DSO) within the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS). In accordance with applicable laws, the Assistant Director will manage student accommodation requests which includes conducting intakes, reviewing eligibility documentation, and assisting with the identification and timely implementation of approved accommodations. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Assistant Dean on the vision, planning, and development of the DSO with the goal of improving the overall physical and online accessibility of the College. The Assistant Director will also help increase the visibility of the office by participating in multiple events and meetings across campus including, but not limited to: Orientation, First Year Experience, Parents’ Weekend, select Student Affairs events, and Capital Planning project meetings. This position will play a crucial role in educating the BC Community on the purpose and nature of academic and nonacademic accommodations while helping them to understand how they can assist the DSO with creating an accessible campus experience for all BC students.This position will have a high level of autonomy and discretion in interpreting the needs of students and determining reasonable accommodations. The Assistant Director must make decisions regarding eligibility for accommodations (academic and nonacademic) in accordance with applicable laws and will assist in addressing issues regarding reports of discrimination per those laws. The position will collaborate with faculty to identify appropriate academic accommodations. The Assistant Director will also address urgent accessibility complaints by working with the Registrar, Communications Office, the Connors Family Learning Center, Facilities, and Center for Teaching Excellence. The Assistant Director will help advance the mission of the Office of the Dean of Students more broadly by participating in DOS events, initiatives and planning efforts.The successful candidate should have:A demonstrated mastery of relevant legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and knowledge of recent state and federal court cases that impact disability services administration.Experience in evaluating documentation of disability, determining eligibility for services and accommodations, and generating a plan for the provision of services and accommodations.Knowledge of assistive technology used for sensory impairments and temporary injuries.Skills in counseling and consultation.Understanding of student development issues.Strong communication and conflict management skills.In order to support BC students, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $57,800 to $72,250; salary commensurate with relevant experience.RequirementsMaster’s degree in education, psychology, higher education administration, social services or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Minimum of three years’ experience working within a disability or accessibility office in a higher education setting.Demonstrated experience collaborating with community partners to implement approved accommodations and enhance overall campus accessibility.Experience reviewing medical documentation in support of academic and nonacademic accommodation requests.Experience determining and implementing accommodations, including clinical and fieldwork accommodations, in pre-professional, professional, and graduate school post-secondary settings.Demonstrate the awareness, knowledge, and skills required to engage and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds.Ability to work both independently and within a team.Ability to build working relationships across the college.Exceptional diplomacy and conflict management skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.Superior presentation skills.Ability to take initiative and complete tasks with minimal supervision.Strong computer skills with emphasis on database management.Boston College conducts pre-employment background checks as part of the hiring process.Boston College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
