Responsibilities for MDS Coordinator
Participate in the admission process of prospective residents in terms of their nursing needs and appropriate placementDetermine potential Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) and expense associated with a potential admissionReview all applications for admission, followed by on-site or phone assessment and communicate results of assessment to the Admissions CoordinatorComplete and assure the accuracy of the MDS process for all residentsMaintain current working knowledge of Medicare criteria, serving as a resource for nursing staff and communicate changes in regulationsMonitor Case Mix Index (CMI) scores, looking for potential risks and/or changes that may affect Medicaid reimbursementFacilitate problem-solving for complicated admissionsMonitor Medicare assessment schedules and nursing documentation to ensure accuracy and timely submissionQualifications for MDS Coordinator
4-years experience in MDS coordinator role or related experienceCurrent and valid state nursing licenseExperience in a clinical and healthcare settingDeep medical terminology knowledgeExceptional mathematical skills and ability to apply them to tasks such as analysis of variance and sampling theoryExcellent leadership skillsDemonstrable knowledge of state and federal regulationsSuperb decision-making skillsProficiency in MDS 3.0
Will not take on-call rotation. RNs preferred, but LVNs accepted as well. Must have previous MDS experience. Building averages 80 residents and 10-15 skilled mix.
