Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking to hire an ASUN Senator for the College of Business. The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national, and international levels.

In General

A Senator, elected by peers in the college of the senator’s major, serves a broad set of functions within the Association. However, the primary role of the Senator is that of a legislator, amending and generating bills and resolutions which best reflect the needs and voices of the students during the Senator's term. Senators must maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements of the Constitution from an institution of higher education.

This ASUN Student Leader position is an appointed member of the student government. By applying for this position, you are considered a candidate and must meet the requirements of eligibility as stated in the ASUN Constitution and the ASUN Statutes. Applying for this position does not automatically employ you, and the candidate must partake in interviews and be appointed by the ASUN Senate.

Responsibilities

The Senator is in the prime position to communicate between students and heads of colleges. The duties include, but are not limited to:

Host four office hours within a two-week period

Regularly attend the entirety of the convening of the Senate and its committees to which the Senator has been assigned. Inability to attend will result in disqualification from the Office of Senator.

Report during committee meetings to which the senator is assigned with respect to the Senator's activities as requested by the chair of the committee.

Mentor and educate Legislative Intern(s) assigned in concurrence with the standards proposed by the Speaker Pro Tempore.

Regularly attend meetings of the Student Advisory Board of the college or take initiative regarding an inactive or nonexistent advisory board.

Required Qualifications

Must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

Must have a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 credits

Must have a declared major in the college you wish to represent

Must perform all duties outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents and uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct

Must meet all deadlines set forth

Must attend all required meetings and training

Must work scheduled hours

Must complete and submit HR paperwork on time

Must assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada

Must act in an ethical manner, maintaining a high level of integrity

Other duties as assigned

Compensation Grade

Student Employee Level 3: $15.00/hr through a stipend for the 91st session that runs from April 2024 – April 2025.
