FLSA Status: ExemptPay Range: $43,000-$50,000Reports to: Operations DirectorRevision Date: 03/10/2024Leadership Level: Team LeaderPrimary Function/Department: AquaticsPOSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility by developing, organizing, and implementing high quality, member focused, aquatic programs. The Aquatics Director at YMCA of Austin intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the aquatics department, programming and staff. We are determined: above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger beginning with you.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.Recruits, hires, and trains diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistic to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the pool facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, practices and meets. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of a program.Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.Creates and schedules water fitness classes, swim classes, and swim team practices and meets.Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.Develops and submits timely budgets, including staying within the parameters of the approved calendar year budget. Also, the accurate submission of forecasts and reforecast as required.Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.Attend meetings and work with committees including program committees and things pertaining to aquatics.Attends weekly leadership meetings and weekly direct report meetings to include full participation, preparation, and engagement during scheduled meetings.Participates in Manager on Duty assignments to support the building and all staff.Develops goals and objectives for all full-time and part-time staff that are measurable and specific that align with the board-approved strategic plan.Oversee part-time Swim Lesson Coordinator and all aquatics staff.Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or CEO.EFFECT ON END RESULT:Maintaining good relationships within the YMCA director staff, aquatic part-time staff, school district staff, community partners, along with pool and community members.Maintaining staffed pools so community members can enjoy our aquatic facility.Steady growth of program and participants.Engaging CommunityQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in related field or 2 years equivalent experience as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.Minimum age of 21.Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, and Westbend assigned classes.Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, instructor preferred.Current YMCA or American Red Cross Swim Instructor certification, trainer preferred.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.CPO certification preferred or obtained within 90 days of hire.Hours vary depending on need, including weekends and evenings.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
