Your OpportunityWe are hiring a senior level stormwater-focused engineer, planner, or scientist to join our growing Water practice in California! Do you have a passion for innovative problem-solving and collaboration with your clients and partners? Do you enjoy teaching others, learning from some of the most cutting-edge science and engineering projects on the west coast, and co-creating meaningful and impactful projects? Are you a seller-doer with long-established relationships in southern California and strong business development and project management skills? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
In this role, we will count on you to:
Support our Water practice in southern California by expanding our relationships with clients from LA to San Diego and developing business with new clients.
Serve as a conduit for Herrera’s diverse Water practice knowledge, helping share valuable lessons and solutions up and down the west coast.
Manage diverse projects such as stormwater and green infrastructure designs, stormwater and water resource planning, water quality studies and BMP performance assessments, etc.
Play an integral role in ongoing refinement and implementation of our strategic business development initiatives in California.
Manage and mentor junior team members so they can thrive at Herrera and in the industry.
Minimum QualificationsEducation, Experience, & Licensure/Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, science, or public administration
10+ years of experience in stormwater and/or water quality management
Business development interest, skills, and demonstrated success
If you are an engineer, a PE license in California
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Extensive project management experience in Southern California including familiarity with the technical issues, regulations, drivers, and key players
Strong business development skills and the ability to lead proposals
Ability to foster respectful, long-lasting relationships with clients, contractors, and other partners
Collaborator and team builder with capacity to work with a team of interdisciplinary professionals and manage multi-disciplinary projects
Experience developing scopes of work and budgets
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
15+ years’ experience in stormwater and/or water quality management
Supervisory and mentorship experience
Experience with Bluebeam or PDF editing software

Engineer VI – $147,120 - $190,792
Scientist V – $118,460 - $162,132
Scientist VI – $138,386 - $182,058
Planner V – $124,192 - $167,864
Planner VI – $146,028 - $187,864
Level is determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to years of experience, type/relevance of experience, skillset, and fit for the role
