THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRSThe division is undergoing an exciting reorganization, which includes several new departments and realignments. Encompassing several departments, including Student Engagement, The Career Center, The Center for Democracy and Civic Life, Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging, Graduate Student Life, Commuter Student Programs, The Dean of Students Office, Retriever Support Services, Office of Health Promotion, Residential Life, Retriever Integrated Health, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Student Affairs Facility Operations, Auxiliary and Business Services, Student Affairs Communication and Marketing, Student Affairs Success Initiatives and UMBC Transit, the division of student affairs serves as a dynamic resource for student success. At the very center of UMBC’s Residential Life are 4,000 vibrant and diverse students. The staff and over 200 paraprofessionals provide care, connections, facilities, services, and programs that support the academic mission of the University and enhance the quality of life for students living on campus. The Residential Life staff and faculty-mentors foster the personal, social, academic, and leadership development of students, preparing them to be active and responsible citizens within UMBC and beyond.

The UMBC housing portfolio generates approximately $29 million in annual revenue and includes six Residential halls and four apartment communities, one of which is a public-private partnership with 582 beds,

Walker Avenue Apartments . Walker serves students who have earned thirty or more credits and is the only option available to graduate students at this time.Position Overview:

The Executive Director will oversee residential education, assignments, and housing operations, promoting a culture that respects and honors the identity and diverse needs of students. The courageous decision-maker and dynamic leader will develop a strategic vision that will strengthen service delivery, promote solutions, and empower others to lead and manage with equity in mind. At the intersection of student development and customer service, this position will serve as a critical link to university offices and departments in addressing student needs. As a result of the successful recruitment, Residential Life will be a model of collaborative leadership, effective communication, and inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Dean of Students, the Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic direction for Residential Life and collaborating with peer department leads. The Executive Director will be a strong advocate for student success, engagement, and well-being, establish a visible and active presence, and continue to promote a culture of responsiveness to students' needs. They will cultivate open and transparent relationships with staff, students, families, and faculty, proactively forging a strong, stable, and inclusive standard of operation that is nimble and enables growth.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

UMBC seeks an experienced Residential life administrator and innovative leader who champions the values of inclusive excellence and student-centeredness in the role of Executive Director. An advanced degree is required, along with demonstrated progressive administrative and leadership experience in a similarly constituted institution. While no one person will embody all of the following, the successful Executive Director candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications, skills, experiences, and personal qualities:A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience, with at least two years at a leadership level that includes budgetary, programmatic, and people management at a similar scale.A proven track record of decisive leadership with constructive outcomes.A high degree of emotional intelligence, including an interpersonal style that fosters collaboration and meaningful relationships with colleagues and students.Demonstrated effectiveness and competency in the development and execution of strategic and operational plans that require coordination and collaboration across internal departments and external functions.A record of success as an administratively strong and collaborative leader in a fast-growing and mission-driven organization.The ability to inspire, build, lead, motivate, and provide vision to staff while overseeing complex organizational structures and encouraging change and growth in programs and people.A demonstrated commitment to public higher education and experience with inclusive excellence, with an active record of removing systemic barriers.The highest integrity, can-do attitude; even-keeled and calm when leading through crises and challenges.

Salary:

Salary: $139,500 - $157,500 depending on qualifications and experience.The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
