(NJMS), seek a nationally recognized radiation oncologist at the Associate Professor to Professor level, with proven leadership experience and a distinguished record of original clinical research, exceptional clinical and educational skills, and a commitment to the Institute’s mission, to serve as

Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology .The Chair provides oversight for all operational and programmatic aspects within the discipline of radiation oncology, including clinical radiation oncology, radiation physics, and radiation cancer biology. The Chair is responsible for oversight of all clinical/research activities and mentorship of the researchers/providers assigned. The Chair serves as the Chief of the Radiation Oncology Service.The Chair will be a resident member of Rutgers Cancer Institute with joint academic appointment in the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. The Chair will work under the direction of the Cancer Institute Director and Associate Vice Chancellor for Cancer Programs, and School Deans on mutually agreed upon areas, and liaise with the RWJBarnabas Health Executive Leadership for all operational and programmatic matters regarding radiation oncology for the Rutgers Cancer Institute.Duties

Administrative

Oversee short- and long-range planning, funding, procurement, and sustainability, and direct professional activities and projects to ensure excellence for the Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, maintaining accreditation and certification of the Radiation Oncology Facility, and current technology and standards of care.Work directly with the hospital administration in developing appropriate budgets, capital equipment requests and financial issues as they relate to the clinical operations of the department of radiation oncology.Develop and grow the department of radiation oncology, including expansion of currently available services, growth of IMRT, IGRT, brachytherapy and other technologies in radiation oncology.Ensure appropriate quality improvement and quality control initiatives, chart rounds, physics and dosimetry QA programs and other quality and safety initiatives within the department.Work with RWJUH administration in oversight and management of technical, clerical, and nursing personnel within the hospital’s department of radiation oncology.Coordinate research effort in the Department, focusing on areas of clinical investigation which will offer the latest technologies and treatments to patients in the region requiring radiation therapy services.Collaborate with the System Director for Radiation Oncology and relevant Associate Directors, to recruit and retain radiation oncology faculty and staff in line with the CINJ and RWJBH Strategic Plans and commitment to an equitable and inclusive environment.Promote an inclusive and healthy workplace environment for Department employees where all can thrive.Responsible for making effective and equitable recommendations to the CINJ Director, Deans, and RWJBH System Directors regarding hiring, compensation, promotion, termination, and/or discipline, for faculty within the Department.Perform comprehensive annual evaluations and ensure appropriate conduct and adherence to CINJ’s inclusive core values of the faculty, providing consistent feedback to the faculty regarding performance/conduct, with consistent communication to the CINJ Director and RWJBH leadership as appropriate.Keep apprised of RBHS Faculty Appointments & Promotions guidelines, AAUP contract, and Faculty Affairs policies, working closely with the CINJ Office of Faculty Recruitment and Affairs, Associate Director for Faculty Development and Affairs and the RBHS Provosts, to ensure appropriate guidance for and management of Department faculty.Create and modify existing Department policies and procedures with support from CINJ’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to promote an inclusive and equitable environment for faculty, staff, trainees, and patients in radiation oncology.Promote and ensure appropriate and equitable development opportunities for Department faculty, including individualized mentorship plans, leadership development, and other supports for career advancement.Participate in annual leadership development activities including, but not limited to, promoting a healthy and inclusive workplace; recruitment, retention, and career development of underrepresented groups; effectiveness as a mentor and as a leader.Support responsible stewardship of philanthropic funds in collaboration with the Rutgers Foundation and with faculty within the Department.Oversee the Radiation Oncology Residency Program, maintaining accreditation and compliance, and a nationally recognized quality program.Participate in outreach activities, acting as a spokesperson as opportunities arise to promote the RWJUH Radiation Oncology Department, its clinical care, research and teaching programs.Participate in developing a network with the Medical Staff, Community and Professional Organizations, Media, other groups who can provide information, referrals, and support to the radiation oncology service.Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements.Research

Promote collaboration between members of CINJ research programs that encourage and maintain an environment of teamwork and shared knowledge.Support participation in one of the CINJ Research Programs.Conduct NCI-funded and other peer-reviewed research and publish scholarly articles.Support responsible stewardship of philanthropic funds in collaboration with the Rutgers Foundation and with faculty within the Division.Teaching

Participate in the teaching of students, residents, and fellows as part of the educational mission of RWJMS, providing an inclusive and engaging environment for all learners and incorporating educational curriculum that reflects the diverse patient population students will serve.Provide senior-level mentorship for CINJ faculty across disciplines.Oversee education activities being provided by Department faculty and encourage inclusion of content and resources that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in work.Attend Department of Radiation Oncology New Patient Conferences, Chart Rounds, M&M and business meetings.Participate in resident and hospital staff (nursing, technical and dosimetry education in conferences and rounds.Participate in physician and ancillary staff in-service and orientation.Maintain radiation oncology grand rounds series to provide educational opportunities and outreach to radiation oncologists and practitioners in the community.Service

Serve on appropriate CINJ Leadership Committees, such as Officer’s Cabinet, CINJ Appointments and Promotions Committee.Serve on hospital committees related to the overall oncology program and administration, including the Executive Board, Cancer Committee, Graduate Medical Education Committee and other committees essential to the direction of the hospital and department.Serve as the hospital’s representative to tumor boards and other community activities related to patient care, with specific reference to radiation oncology and cancer care.Participate in any meetings or other activities as needed, representing the Department.Benefits Highlights
