The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Previously, Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn borough president. The Team You’ll Work With

The Mayor's Community Affairs Unit (CAU) is the fundamental connection between City Hall and New York City residents throughout the five boroughs. The primary mission of CAU is to establish deep partnerships with communities in order to actively engage New Yorkers in City government. To this end, CAU is directly responsible for integrating government into communities by working with Mayoral agencies to ensure the effective and efficient deployment of government services and the Mayor’s top policy priorities and initiatives.

The Problems You’ll Solve

CAU Borough Directors serve as the direct link between the community and the Mayor and his city agencies. They represent the Mayor in each of their respective boroughs. In the position of Brooklyn Borough Director, this individual will be responsible for:

Maintaining key relationships in the borough.

Attending relevant civic, community board, and community meetings.

Representing the Mayor at events such as parades and fairs.

Following up on constituent cases.

Maintaining lists of issues and prominent community leaders.

In emergency situations, Borough Directors are on the scene to represent the Mayor’s Office. Emergency situations include but are not limited to blackouts, tragic deaths, high profile crimes, fires where citizens are impacted, and water main breaks or street collapses where citizens are evacuated from their homes. Borough Directors seek to attend new community meetings and events each month, in addition to getting involved in creating initiatives as the need arises to address the concerns raised at such meetings.

About You

The preferred candidate must have excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, along with strong communication and organization skills. Also important is the ability to deal with a diverse constituency and work productively under pressure, both as an individual and part of a team. The Brooklyn Borough Director reports directly to the Assistant Commissioner. Skills required include:

You have a bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college.

You have a keen ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments.

You have the ability to work with all levels of staff, inside and outside the agency.

You have the ability to work independently and exercise high degree of initiative to accomplish tasks and solve problems.

You have the ability to prioritize and follow up while meeting deadlines.

You have excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

You have a professional demeanor.

You are bilingual candidates ( preferred ).

Salary

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is

$80,000 to $85,000 . Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
