Your Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Corporate Communications team is a centralized function that leads top-tier media strategy, thought leadership and events for IBM, as well as efforts on behalf of organization-wide functions such as finance, CSR, and workforce, and key initiatives including Think.
In this role you will partner with colleagues, executive leadership, outside agencies and stakeholders to drive a comprehensive Corporate Communications strategy and expand awareness of IBM, with a focus on the San Francisco market. This includes a range of activity spanning media relations, executive communication, thought leadership, message development, events, and more — all with a heavy focus on AI for Business.
The ideal candidate will have their finger on the pulse of tech industry and global trends, coupled with a keen ability to connect those to IBM -- our business, our clients and the issues we care about. They are a utility player, with proven experience developing and executing multi-platform communications plans. They have established relationships in the San Francisco Bay-area, and are always on the lookout for new and creative opportunities that will expand IBM's influence beyond our endemic audiences.
This is a role with high visibility both inside and outside of IBM.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise• Minimum of 9 years relevant experience in public relations, communications and/or the media industry; Experience in enterprise tech PR -- or tech adjacent roles -- strongly preferred.• Experience developing and executing comprehensive, multi-platform communications strategies.• Strong track record of securing and managing media placements across a wide variety of print, digital and broadcast outlets.• Proven ability to make, manage and maintain relationships with media.• Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to effectively adapt tone and style for various audiences across multiple platforms and formats.• Experience working with C-Suite and senior level executives.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise• A fast-learner, with relentless curiosity and interest in a broad range of topics such as current events and cultural moments, emerging technologies, financial markets, sustainability, etc.• A nimble, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality; the ability to transition and/or also support success across a wide range of assignments.• Self-motivated and proactive, highly organized and deadline-oriented; experience managing complex projects with minimal oversight• An entrepreneurial and creative mindset; always looking for the new and the next, open to big ideas and experimentation.• Knowledgeable about - or deeply interested in - IBM’s past, present and future with an understanding of its evolving position in the enterprise technology industry, global business and society.
