What does an Associate Director, Economic Mobility Initiatives do?The Associate Director of Economic Mobility Initiatives at United Way for Southeastern Michigan is a crucial role that bridges internal collaboration and external impact in the nonprofit landscape. In close partnership with the Director of Community Impact Innovation, you will provide flexible support to advance various Economic Mobility team initiatives. This position champions collaborative leadership and project management, identifying challenges and driving process improvements while lending support and coaching to team members.

You will work cross-functionally to align economic mobility initiatives with broader organizational strategies, potentially managing direct report team members. Externally, you will engage in pivotal programs such as the Detroit Financial Well-being Innovation Challenge and the Detroit Tax Credit Coalition, overseeing grantmaking relationships, enhancing program evolution, and supporting fundraising initiatives. This role embodies the spirit of teamwork and innovation, making a tangible difference in the community's human services landscape.

What matters mostTo thrive as the Associate Director of Economic Mobility Initiatives at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, candidates must possess a blend of educational credentials and practical experience. A bachelor's degree in social sciences, social work, public policy, nonprofit management, or a related field is essential, with a master's degree preferred. The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years of experience managing complex projects or programs within a social sector setting, showcasing expertise in designing and implementing new initiatives or continuous program improvement. Strong leadership skills are crucial, including experience in managing direct report staff and cross-functional teams effectively.

A deep understanding of low-income and structurally disadvantaged populations is necessary, along with subject matter expertise in promoting economic mobility through initiatives such as financial empowerment, volunteer income tax assistance (VITA), and workforce development. This role requires adaptability, strategic planning, and a commitment to collaboration to drive impactful change in the community.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

A bachelor's degree in social sciences, social work, public policy, nonprofit management, or a related field.

A master's degree preferred.

5-8 years of experience managing complex projects or programs. Experience in a social sector setting strongly preferred.

Work experience designing and/or implementing new programs or continuous program improvement strongly preferred.

Experience managing direct report staff and cross-functional teams.

Knowledge of and experience working with low-income and/or structurally disadvantaged populations.

Subject matter expertise and work experience leading projects or programs to promote economic mobility such as financial empowerment, volunteer income tax assistance (VITA), housing, workforce development, etc. strongly preferred.
