Manhattan Strategy Group (MSG), a rapidly growing management and social sciences consulting firm, is seeking a Managing Editor of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Journal. MSG provides consulting services across the federal government in the areas of technical assistance, research and evaluation, information and communications, and management and technology. The Managing Editor of the NIJ Journal plays a critical role in overseeing the content development and production of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Journal. This individual ensures that the journal's articles and components meet high-quality standards and align with the organization's editorial guidelines.Key Responsibilities:
Content Development:
Coordinate with NIJ executive staff and subject matter experts to develop compelling content.Contact authors and provide guidance on the story's angle, tone, and format.Write articles and other components for the NIJ Journal, including:One article per issueDirector's message (approximately 400 words)Two-page bulletin spread (approximately 1,200 words)Summaries for NIJ.ojp.gov (approximately 80 words per article)Coordinate the review process for drafts with NIJ staff and other relevant individuals.Participate in planning discussions, prepare schedules, recommend content, and support executive staff meetings related to the NIJ Journal.Editorial Oversight:
Coordinate reviews among authors, the Department of Justice (DOJ), external reviewers, and NIJ executive staff.Manage the copyediting and proofreading process for the manuscript.Lead NIJ Journal board meetings and serve as the secretariat of the board.Production Management:
Oversee production activities, including layout and printing.Submit laser proofs to NIJ for approval.Prepare and deliver printer specifications.Assemble and deliver the printer package.Prepare and deliver files for posting to the NIJ website.Minimum Experience Requirements:
5+ years of directly relevant work experience in writing and editing publications and various documents.Excellent writing skills are essential.Knowledge of style guidelines is necessary.Clearance:
Public Clearance preferred; or must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance by contract start.EEO Statement:
