Put your passion for racial equity and social justice to work - apply today!What You'll DoThe Employment Specialist, (BFET) will focus on Basic Food, Employment & Training Programs. Working with low-income food stamp recipients transitioning off food stamps and providing employment case management, job readiness skills, vocational training, and job placement. The Employment Specialist will maintain records of clients' progress, complete reports on demographics and achievement of program outcomes and provide support services as needed. This position will target residents of the cities of Bellevue and Kirkland. Additional services provided by the Employment Specialist will include working with employers to develop job opportunities working with DSHS to coordinate services, assisting clients to improve their housing stability, and providing employment services to the general public at Family Village Redmond. This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy, are required job skills and core values. As an equal opportunity employer, we highly encourage people of color to apply.Expectation of your roleThe Employment Specialist will conduct assessments, provide one-on-one job search assistance, make referrals, provide job training workshops, and assist clients with job retention, wage progression and money and time management skills.Provides regular outreach to DSHS, college partners, and other service providers in the community.Will require travel to multiple locations, including YWCA locations in King County, WorkSource offices, college campuses, housing programs, employer locations, and job and resource fairs.This position will spend at least one day a week on campus at Bellevue College and Lake Washington Institute of Technology.Assess client's job readiness, occupational training needs and need for additional community resources and helps develop clear and realistic employment and educational objectives. Provides individual and group job search preparation and training to explore and develop the habits and attitudes needed to be successful in the workplace.Coaches clients in developing job skills, resumes, cover letters etc. and provides clients with job search informationMaintains accurate client files and enters client information into YWCA Client Track and e-JAS databases.Completes monthly and quarterly data and narrative reports on program performance.Must have's to be successfulBachelor's degree in social services, social work, education, or related field desired AND/OR an equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.(1) to (2) years of demonstrated experience required performing work related to client recruitment and enrollment, career assessment and planning, homeless and/or housing services, support services, occupational training, workplace readiness, job placement, records maintenance and outcomes reportingKnowledge of strength-based, client-centered case management practicesUnderstanding of issues related to poverty, homelessness and the governmental, educational, and social service systems that serve low-income people.Oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.Computer familiarity with Windows, Word., Excel, and Outlook Experience working with communities of color.Hours, Rate, and BenefitsHourly Rate/Salary $25.00Hours: 40 Hours per weekExcellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plansAt the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan After two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement FundPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
