HDR is currently seeking to hire a Control Systems Designer / EIT to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Folsom or Walnut Creek, CA. This individual’s primary function will be to serve on a team that supports our global Control Systems practice which includes full-service capabilities. Our practice provides assessment, planning, design, automation programming/configuration, testing & commissioning, and maintenance for control systems in multiple industries.

The Control Systems Designer / EIT will work under the direction of a Senior Control Systems Specialist / Engineer or Control Systems Specialist / Engineer as part of a team responsible for designing complex industrial and building control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. This position requires coordination with multidiscipline design teams, and participation in the development of control system construction documents for projects in multiple market sectors including oil & gas; food & beverage; logistics; manufacturing; mining; general industrial, transportation, technology, media; and water/wastewater.

This individual should be self-motivated with attention to detail and an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound control system designs.

In the role of Control Systems EIT, we'll count on you to:

Participate in the design of complex supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

Assist with selection and specification of process instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment.

Assist with the development of biddable and technically accurate control system construction documents including P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts and wiring diagrams, installation details, loop drawings, operational sequences, and technical specifications.

Develop skillset and utilize CADD software including the following products: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Visio.

Assist with the development of software applications for automation such as programmable logic controller (PLC) and human machine interface (HMI).

Assist with system testing and commissioning activities.

Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.

Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.

Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects.

Give direction to clerical and technical personnel.

Perform other duties as needed.

Growth opportunities:

Exposure to multiple market sectors and core services of our global control systems program, both industrial process and building automation.

Travel to client facilities to assess and document the current state of installed industrial and building control systems.

Assist with the review of shop drawings during construction.

Participate in field observations during construction.

Assist with development of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems related field.

EIT certification preferred. Candidates hired without EIT registration will have the title of "Control Systems Coordinator" and may transition to “Control Systems EIT” after obtaining EIT registration.

Experience developing P&IDs, control schematics, and loop drawings a plus.

Experience with networking and communications a plus.

Experience with Autodesk products a plus.

Preference given to local candidates, Sacramento/Folsom area a plus.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.

Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of a task.

Knowledgeable of Allen-Bradley, Modicon, Wonderware and/or Interlution.

May need to travel.
