Position Summary:
About the team:Walmart's Advertising Technology data team owns and drives the foundational data platform for targeting and measurement systems. The team is custodian of all the business data and metrics, and the guarantor of their fidelity and completeness. The team charter is to provide interfaces and guidance for all aspects of advertising data.
We are a team of data engineers whose strengths are: (1) building scalable data platforms (2) exposure to machine learning techniques and data science (3) making sense of broadly defined problems through data analysis.
What you'll do:A successful person in this role will build and own a scalable data lake platform with a complete and unified view of the customer with high reliability and observability, ensure data is collected more effectively, and manage customer data preference to stay compliant with data regulations. You will drive alignment with other teams, guide architecture and design within the team, and influence it outside. As a manager of the core data team:
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, and other EMs to understand the data landscape and influence methodology choices.
Own and develop the data roadmap.
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
Drive decision-making across Privacy, Product, Business, and Engineering teams on how to adhere to data governance objectives while maximizing the value of the affected data and the productivity of our workforce.
Develop data policies for data access, data compliance, data retention, and data lifecycle management.
Lead the design and development of data cataloging tools and provide guidance for the MAT org on adopting these tools for specific use cases.
Collaborate with various teams to understand data requirements and ensure data quality standards are met.
Develop our Master Data Management strategy, ensuring quality of critical data elements and identifying opportunities to increase business value through data.
Identify opportunities at the engineering and product side and influence leaders and engineers to solve high-impact problems.
Partner across the Engineering organization to establish strategic plans and objectives to improve the mean time to detect and mean time to restore.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
8+ years of experience in software development, ideally focusing on big data processing and distributed systems.
Previous experience as a technical lead or a manager.
Proficient in Scala or Java or Python, HQL, and SQL.
Knowledge of the big data ecosystem, e.g., HDFS, Hive, MapReduce, Presto, etc. and internals.
Track record of delivering high-impact products in broadly defined subject domains.
Minimum Qualifications:Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. 2 years’ supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
