Indianapolis, INAs the Software Engineer on the Defense Digital team, you will be responsible for both creating software applications and empowering other internal colleagues to create software. The successful candidate will join the Defense Digital Team and work day-to-day with an internal organization called the Software Factory. This is a small, agile, and fast-moving team which embraces the concept of "Learn Fast, Fail Fast" as we help to digitally transform the larger business. You will be working primarily around two areas: building backend APIs that interact with databases and fulfill data requests along with building frontend/GUI applications that users can interact with. Someone with a background primarily in frontend JavaScript/TypeScript development will also be successful in this role. The Tech Stack is: TypeScript, Vue.js, Prisma, and GraphQL although various other languages, tools, and concepts are used as well.Key Accountabilities:Create custom software applications that drive internal and external business valueKeep up with industry best practices, new libraries, and tools in the backend/frontend ecosystem and bring that learning to bear on Rolls-Royce projectsIntegrate with the internal Software Factory organization by helping to coach, guide, mentor, and train part-time programmers and citizen developers in basic and intermediate software development(Backend) Develop and implement modern reliable APIs which other business teams can interact with(Frontend) Create engaging and professional website frontends in line with our global design system and using component librariesPromote Rolls-Royce as an innovative company internally and externallyBasic Qualifications:Associate's degree with 4+ years of experience, ORBachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience, ORMaster's degree or JD/PhD, OR6+ years of experience in lieu of a degreeTo be considered for this role you must be a US citizenPreferred Qualifications:Demonstrated capability in creating APIs, mapping/creating relational database schemasDemonstrated experience in basic design and UI/UX principles and building frontends using modern component-based systems (React, Vue, Svelte, etc.)Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching others in technical endeavorsDemonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and oralComfortable with ambiguity - able to define and implement plans that achieve business value without detailed instructionsAdvocate of High-Performance Culture and positive changePay Range:
