This posting is for awardees of the Minnesota Postbaccalaureate Readiness in Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes (PRIMED) program. PRIMED is a post-Baccalaureate Research Program and awardees are given temporary Research Professional 1- Life Sciences-Multidiscipline (job code 8351LS) appointments for up to 24 months.

The Mission of the MN Postbaccalaureate Readiness in Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes has three goals: Enhance doctoral readiness by providing meaningful and extraordinary experiences in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (DEM); Provide career development activities and coursework aimed at enhancing research and professional skills; and Facilitate paths to graduate program admission (PhD, MD/PhD).

Thus, the central goal of our program is to enhance the Scholars readiness for graduate school during a two-year postbaccalaureate period. We define readiness along four different Axis: (1) Laboratory Competence; (2) Communication and Tools of Science; (3) Graduate Program Entrance; and (4) Navigating Graduate School and succeeding in Ph.D. programs related to diabetes research.

Job Duties:75% Researcher Duties: carry out experiments under the supervision of the PI and/or a senior laboratory member. Responsibilities may include assistance with specialized lab techniques and the participation in cutting-edge research, ordering and maintaining inventory of common supplies for the laboratory, maintaining equipment in working order, keeping records of protocols and standard operating procedures.

15% PRIMED Program Duties: all Scholars are expected to attend and actively participate in a number of program activities, designed to enhance preparation for graduate study and develop a community with their cohort:* Attend the Annual MN PRIMED Gathering* Attend weekly seminar on DEM* Biannual meeting with the Mentoring Committee* Attend MN PRIMED workshops and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training sessions. Requirements: A bachelor's degree or combination of education and work experience to equal four years and a strong desire to enhance credentials for graduate school applications, aiming for a PhD or MD/PhD. A two-year commitment to the program to build academic and research experience, strengthen publication credentials, and apply to graduate or medical school for an MD/PhD in the fall of the second year. Applicants must have been awarded a PRIMED position in the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology.About the Department
