JOB OVERVIEW:
The Accounting Manager of Payroll and Accounts Payable is responsible for all functions of payroll and accounts payable. Represents the GPA in regard to compliance with federal and state regulations related to labor and payroll statutes. Supports and creates efficiencies within payroll and accounts payable. Promotes accuracy, reliability, timeliness, and compliance with GPA policies. Conducts business with integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism. The Accounting Manager performs various accounting duties including monthly closing, finance projects, as needed, and supervises the payroll and accounts payable team.
Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.
JOB DUTIES:
Serves as primary payroll and accounts payable contact for GPA Management and special projects in coordination with internal GPA departments.Supervises and oversees payroll functions and duties of the Payroll Accountant. Manages complex payroll processes.Supervises and oversees accounts payable functions and duties of the AP team. Manages complex accounts payable processes.Oversee weekly accounts payable processing and disbursements.Serves as a backup to the Payroll Accountants regularly processing hourly and salary payroll.Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)Collaborate effectively with internal departments to ensure proper processing of invoices.Reconciles monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports for federal and state labor and tax requirements.Primary contact with Human Resources, IT, and ADP for payroll issues. Coordinates time schedules and payroll issues with timekeepers.Provide guidance to management on new IRS, and Department of Treasury tax and withholdings laws and regulations as pertaining to Georgia Ports Authority.Reviews and approves all payroll payments and manual calculations for all payrolls.Assists with month-end closing and management reports. Prepares monthly/quarterly journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.Support financial and benefit plan audits.Create efficiencies through regular process reviews.Support ERP review and implementation/updates.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesKnowledge of general accounting principles, payables and payroll practices. HighAbility to understand accounting systems. MediumProficient in MS office (especially Excel). HighKnowledge of ADP or other payroll systems. HighStrong ability to manage and lead staff HighAccounts payable processing and treasury experience. HighWorking experience in payroll tax at the federal, state, and local levels. MediumEnsures confidentiality and privacy of all employees. HighAbility to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels. High

EducationRequired Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required in accounting or related field
