This Credentialing Program Assistant position is located at the VA Boston Healthcare System in the Medical Service, located at the West Roxbury, MA campus.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for direct coordination of the credentialing and privileging process of the members of the Medical Service (Physicians, RNP's & PA(C)'s) as well as indirect overseeing of the credentialing and privileging process/scope of practice of the Emergency Physicians, Primary Care Physicians and Primary Care RNP's. The incumbent is involved with Resident credentialing and privileging as well which includes coordination and management of the daily operations of the Medicine Residency House staff Programs, which are fully integrated with the Residency programs of the Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston University Medical Center.

Major Duties:

The direct duties relate to new appointments, re-appointments, licensure renewals and clearance, Federation of State Medical Boards clearance, and credential verification. S/he maintains a database for all time sensitive certifications and licenses. S/he requests, receives, and reviews quality assurance ongoing and focused peer review process documentation from all of the physicians/RNP's/PA(C)'s mentioned above from the Medical Service as well as assuring the receipt of the documents from other services. This includes not only annual quality assurance/peer review but coordination of the more frequent focused peer reviews for those who are new appointees or those who require performance practice plans. S/he drafts memos for signature by the Chief and/or Associate Chief of Medicine. The incumbent is responsible for following up on continuing medical education credits and works with each new/re-appointed staff member to make sure that the appointment process is understood and completed in a timely and thorough manner.In addition to coordinating all administrative aspects of this program, the incumbent functions as the technical advisor to Medicine as the liaison with the Medical Staff Office on all credentialing and privileging matters. S/he ensures all recommendations from the Professional Standards Board are acted upon in a timely manner and provides technical guidance to the Medical staff on the intricacies of the Credentialing and Privileging process.The incumbent functions as the Medical liaison with the Nursing and ensures all requirements are met for the initial appointment of Medicine's Advance Practice Nurses and other technical positions. S/he may provide direction to nursing staff on qualifications for promotions and special advancements. S/he prepares and submits documentation for these promotions and advancement as called for.The incumbent works closely with the Human Resources Service on new appointments and changes in appointment status. This is especially true with the coordination of newly appointed WOC (without compensation) providers and Fee Basis providers. In this role, the incumbent must have a comprehensive and working knowledge of personnel procedures and practices.S/he completes any additional requests and work as directed by supervisor.Work Schedule:

Physical Requirements : The work area is usually an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office of medical facility setting. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The sedentary and may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items like papers or books. The work requires light to moderate levels/times performing keyboarding to prepare correspondence.

GS-6 grade level:

One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:receiving and directing telephone calls and greeting visitors. Preparing correspondence, reports, and other documents based on information gathered from program files or other records. Establishing and maintaining program files and records. Knowledge of various office automation software, processing procedures, and function keys to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, editing and reformatting electronic drafts, and updating and revising existing databases or spreadsheets. Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of office automation support. Proper use of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and commonly used specialized terminology to prepare written material correctly.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-6 level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
