Position Key Accountabilities:
Our service has a traditional block schedule with 7 days of clinical duties followed by 7 days of non-clinical time. This includes night and weekend coverage which is distributed across all of the clinical team members. We have a geographic rounding structure to support subspecialties, in addition to traditional medical patients in both a supervisory role for some of our teams and independently.
Responsibilities as a member of the Hospitalist Team will include providing:
Clinical service at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center helping administer and potentially supervise medical care to acutely hospitalized patients.
Clinical care, and education of students and residents. The exact mix of these responsibilities will be determined by your interests and role, subject to the department's needs and the approval of the department chair.
Participation in all departmental activities including meetings and teaching conferences is expected.
Participation in the Department's teaching activities, including the medical student and house staff educational programs; your participation in our didactic conferences, seminars, lectures, and case presentations; and your enthusiastic support of our Department's professional activities.
Providing coaching, mentoring, support, and consultation to clinical managers, attending physicians, research personnel, colleagues, and clinical staff.
Serving as a role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills
Delegating authority and accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice and patient care decisions that are consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies, and organizational policies and procedures
Identifying patient and family needs of the populations served; recommending and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age-specific equipment, supplies, and educational resources are available for assigned units/services
Collaborating with UTHealth and hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities, and define the direction of department services; developing, and implementing plans to achieve identified goals, including OR efficiency, productivity, and patient throughput targets across the care continuum
Participating in or chairing committees, workgroups, and meetings as appropriate
Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained, and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent clinical services
Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research
Qualifications:
The selected candidate for the position must have a Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Medical License. Required or preferred board certification/eligibility statement. Required or preferred minimum years of clinical experience or years post-residency statement.
