JOB SUMMARY:
Performs lead-level technical work in the daily operations of maintenance activities. Position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the work of various crews in their division and oversees diverse crew functions, including coordination between various agencies. Work is performed under minimal supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordinates crews for events, maintenance activities, and special projects.
Functions as lead worker in providing technical training and guidance in the more complex aspects of work and safety compliance.
Assists in the locating and coordination of materials and purchase requisitions for replacement equipment, items, and parts; provides budgetary input regarding equipment and parts inventories and preventative maintenance programs.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security procedures and standards.
Responds to maintenance and labor requests for area of assignment.
Conducts facility and equipment inspections, issues work orders, and follows up on completion of maintenance needs including preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance.
Coordinates turf grass maintenance, special event setups, and custodial functions as appropriate to area of assignment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules, trains, and motivates personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies.
Partners with supervisor regarding staff performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required; supplemented by significant vocational training and four (4) years of technical experience in the maintenance of one or more of the trades fields (construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical); demonstrated ability to operate a variety of trucks and medium-sized, heavy maintenance or construction equipment required; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and the ability to drive a Village-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at time of hire or ability to obtain within one year of employment required.
FEMA Certifications, (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer).
Heavy Equipment & Class A or B (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer). Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of budgetary principles and application.
Knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools and equipment, practices, methods, hazards and safety precautions used in the maintenance and repair of streets and rights-of-ways.
Knowledge of hurricane emergency preparedness and management.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department /organization-specific software.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to communicate during emergency situations effectively, promptly, and accurately or to avoid hazards.
Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require periodic lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
