Job Summary
The Director of Buildings and Grounds directs and manages the maintenance and upkeep of the district’s physical property. He/she is charged with keeping the buildings and property looking and functioning properly. Job duties include both physical labor and office work including planning for the future, supervisory needs, and administrative tasks.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience in maintenance/custodial & grounds operations.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Required Knowledge & Abilities
Possesses a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Knowledge of computers and technology.
Knowledge of safety standards, law codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to building and grounds maintenance.
Ability to manage budget and personnel.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Leadership Responsibilities
Review and recommend Capital Outlay projects to provide input for ongoing and new projects within the district.
Provide expertise with long-range planning as it relates to the learning spaces within the district.
Develop and maintain a system to prioritize maintenance and custodial jobs, utilize staff, and account for time and materials in job completion to ensure an effective and efficient work environment.
Conduct and/or organize training for the Buildings and Grounds department.
Develop and implement a program for scheduled maintenance and custodial activities.
Administrative Responsibilities
Make frequent inspections of facilities and grounds to assure that equipment is functioning properly and that work is being completed at a satisfactory level.
Maintain accurate inventory of equipment.
Prepare accident reports and ensure that all incidents are handled in a timely manner.
Ensure proper documentation and safeguards for all materials and equipment issued and used.
Service Responsibilities
Coordinate custodial and maintenance services with Head Custodians, Principals, and Superintendent when needed.
Advise, recommend and follow-up on repair service to be contracted.
Responsible for mowing, cleaning, clearing snow/ice, set up/clean up for school events, and complete tasks as needed that are related to the buildings and grounds department.
Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
