SUMMARY OF JOB POSITION
The job of the Managing Director of Institutional Development is to capitalize on KID smART’s longstanding history of programmatic excellence to ensure continued growth by sustaining and growing its revenue stream. The Managing Director of Institutional Development will support the Fund Development Department through the solicitation of gifts from foundations, corporations, and government funders to support KID smART’s goals and priorities. They will research, cultivate, and solicit proposals based on goals established in the strategic plan and annual grants calendar, which will support departmental and organizational goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB POSITION
Managing Director of Institutional Development responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Grant and Funder Portfolio Management
Foundation Donors:
Prepare and submit grant applications to new and existing foundation donors; complete all reporting requirements for awarded grants.
Government Donors:
Prepare and submit applications to local, state, and national government funders; ensure that the organization is in compliance with all grant & reporting requirements.
Corporate Donors:
Secure corporate support and sponsorship for annual events and school partnerships- particularly Cocktails for KID smART, BEST FEST, ART JAM, and year-round support.
Assist in the implementation of the strategic plan and formulation of budget needs.
Manage annual grants calendar and maintain an active pool of current and potential corporate and foundation donors.
Maintain a central file of proposals, technical and financial records, and reports in the KID smART Google Drive.
Manage corporate and foundation donor stewardship through developing, maintaining, and growing meaningful relationships with current and prospective donors.
Research grant opportunities from a wide range of funders, including government and non-government agencies.
Gather and analyze donor data and trends and articulate evaluation data for reporting purposes.
Write coherent, organized, compelling, and high-quality documents such as solicitation proposals, grant applications, technical reports, and communication materials.
Development Operations (in collaboration with Managing Director of Individual Giving)
Manage the maintenance of the Bloomerang database and ensure the accurate and timely quality control of current and prospective donor data and records, including interactions, contributions, and current contact information.
Perform data and donation entry and produce fund development reports.
Compile donor lists for the annual impact report.
Prepare monthly and annual revenue reports to assess program effectiveness based on established development benchmarks and recommend alterations to plans based on trends.
Stay informed regarding innovations and trends in the development fields, including tax aspects of charitable gifts and legislation affecting such gifts.
Participate with the Executive Director, Education Director, and Board in the identification and prioritization of funding needs.
Fundraising Initiatives Support
Assist with fundraising event coordination and participate in outreach projects and events.
Work on special events and fundraising campaigns, including year-end appeal mailing, Giving Tuesday, GiveNOLA Day, and the Capital Campaign.
Work closely with the Communications Director on donor collateral material including but limited to the Annual Impact Report, Case for Giving, and Creative Collective.
Collaborate with all departments to assist with other fundraising projects and develop relationships with key stakeholders.
Board Support & Reporting
Lead the Fund Development Committee of the Board and present regular fund development reports for Board meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have the following experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; Masters or equivalent credential preferred.
3+ years of grant-writing and nonprofit experience.
Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal funding sources and the ability to locate potential sources for funding.
Maintain a donor-focused approach, responding to donors with the appropriate level of urgency.
Demonstrated history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results with national grants, including large national foundations and government entities.
Knowledge of fundraising principles, strategies, processes, and available resources.
Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources independently.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple application processes simultaneously.
Extremely organized, meticulous with details, and able to meet deadlines.
Ability to assess and interpret prospective and current donors' needs and wishes and translate these into practical action plans utilizing moves management.
Ability to collaborate in order to identify and match the needs of proposals to various departments.
Strong writing and proofreading skills in order to develop professional reports and correspondence.
Ability to clearly articulate the mission of KID smART.
Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports.
Ability to work and positively function within a team environment.
Knowledge of computer systems and productivity software is required; familiar with standard Google Workspace applications and Bloomerang or similar CRM systems is preferred.
Must have sensitivity to the target population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
A sound understanding of financial reports and budgeting is required.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $73,000.00 per year
