Position Summary:
The Computer Science Teacher is responsible for the student engagement and campus leadership around the computer science curriculum program at Stratford School. This person must be professionally prepared to teach computer science to our elementary school students and support the computer science curriculum along with the ongoing education technology integration throughout the school. Additionally, the teacher agrees to uphold the high expectations of student engagement, success around 21st Century Learning outcomes and high academic standards of Stratford School.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Planning, supervising, and implementing the Computer Science curriculum in accordance with Stratford School standards policies, and procedures.
Proficient use of the various technology tools supporting the Stratford School Computer Science curriculum, around critical and computational thinking along with digital citizenship and technology literacy goals on our student outcomes.
Collaborate with the grade level teachers to plan and integrate the Core Knowledge curriculum, when possible and appropriate, with computer science projects.
Maintain a lead role at the campus around procurement, maintenance, and inventory of the technology equipment and tools in coordination with the Stratford Technology team and the campus principal.
Monitor, document, and assess student progress. Maintain close communication with the principal and parents regarding student issues, and conferencing as deemed necessary.
Submit weekly lesson plans and updates to the principal on status around the computer science programs.
Represent Stratford as the campus point person/ambassador of technology integration and computer science at their school site.
Participation in all school events and other special events include; Back-to-School Night, Open House, Stratford School's Annual Family Picnic, in-house training programs and Staff Meetings.
Establish positive guidance techniques rather than negative methods to correct and influence student behavior.
Assist in other duties as assigned by the principal, including morning arrival and departure procedures.
Perform daily tasks and responsibilities with integrity, making effective use of time schedules and not requiring constant reminders to complete tasks.
Treat all children with dignity and respect.
Demonstrate patience and self-control in dealing with students and staff.
Display energy and enthusiasm, maintaining evident interest in the job.
Contribute and share ideas freely with other staff members.
Use appropriate language in and out of the classroom.
Appropriately dressed, well groomed, and neat.
Skills/Knowledge/Education:
Prior to being hired, a teacher shall have a BA or BS degree from an accredited or approved college or university.
Prior work experience in a classroom setting preferred.
Technical Skills/Experience:
Understanding of Computer Literacy and Digital Citizenship skills.
Knowledge of CSTA and other academic technology standards a plus.
Able to troubleshoot to solve minor computer and connectivity issues.
Proficient in Word, Excel and PPT.
Prior programming experience a plus.
Experience using and teaching with educational software.
Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (PC and Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and student devices.
