Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.We are seeking a Fire Extinguisher and Environmental Safety Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, maintaining fire safety equipment, and providing invaluable support to the facilitation of VAPAHCS’ Green Environmental Management Program and Green Environmental Management System (GEMS).Our salary range for this position, based on the market data, is $70k to $90k per annum (range varies depending on experience and qualifications).Key responsibilities:
Conduct monthly safety inspections of all fire extinguishers and fire safety equipment across all VAPAHCS campuses and buildings.Assist with the execution of fire evacuation drills across all VAPAHCS campuses and buildings as a Government Service employee.Assist representatives from the contracted Fire Extinguisher Service company in annual fire extinguisher certification inspections, hydrostatic testing, and extinguisher change-outs.Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to report findings and maintain clear records.Correct, update, and maintain databases and other written/electronic logs and records related to safety inspections.Provide courteous, tactful, and respectful service to VA customers while supporting the VA mission.Maintain the security of physical keys and electronic cards used for access to secure areas containing critical infrastructure or private data.Conduct basic inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with fire and life safety standards.Support activities related to Environmental Management, Construction Safety, Emergency Management, and Industrial Hygiene under the supervision of a government-provided subject matter expert.Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.Qualifications to be successful in the role:
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency degree.Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including cramped spaces, noisy environments, and extreme temperatures or inclement weather.Familiarity with operating fire alarm panels, making proper notifications, and resetting fire alarms and notification devices.Has a valid California Non-Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to read basic drawings (e.g., fire equipment maps), and apply NFPA Fire Code and other relevant standards to real-world situations.Experience with databases and record maintenance.Commitment to safety and environmental sustainability.Ability to obtain necessary clearances and certifications.Must lawfully reside in the United States and be eligible for employment (Planate does not sponsor visas or work permits).Why Planate?
