Overview

Position Statement/Position Summary:

The Fellow will train to help develop the academic knowledge and research fundamentals, teaching expertise and administrative experience necessary to be an exemplary researcher. Our team is dedicated to advancing innovative solutions for vision restoration through chemical reprogramming of retinal neurons. Specifically, we focus on understanding and developing therapies for retinal degeneration associated blindness. Our department is accountable for both basic and translational research, applying cutting-edge biochemical, cellular, and molecular techniques to uncover mechanisms of retinal neuroprotection, regeneration, and functional recovery. We work collaboratively to achieve these goals through projects that span small molecule treatment, in vivo and in vitro retinal degeneration models, and advanced imaging and functional assays. This team is not only accountable for conducting high-quality, reproducible research but also for translating these findings into potential therapeutic applications.Key Responsibilities:Gain proficiency with our small molecule reprogramming techniques and specific animal models for retinal degenerations.Develop a deep understanding of retinal cell biology.Demonstrate skill in advanced techniques such as confocal imaging, RNA sequencing, cell transplantation, and behavioral assays for visual function assessment.Master the multidisciplinary nature of our work, which spans molecular biology, pharmacology, and neuroscience.Efficiently troubleshoot experimental protocols to optimize our six small molecule-cocktail for in vivo applications, particularly in injury models.Collaborate seamlessly with team members and external partners, maintaining ongoing partnerships with other labs and institutions.Exhibit strong project management skills and the ability to handle complex data sets to drive our work forward.Perform laboratory work and conduct research activities independently or in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.Publish results in scientific manuscripts and research publications. Participate in seminars, meetings, trainings and other educational sessions.Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

Exposure to and/or experience in research in a healthcare environment preferred.Knowledge in (i) molecular neuroscience (ii) functional behavior tests in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases. (iii) pharmacokinetics, drug discovery. (iv) neural tissue processing.Education/Licensure/Certification:

MD and/or PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree.*Applicants must have completed their doctoral degree by their anticipated start date.

Pay Scale Information

$29,640.00-$80,196.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
