Sep 19 2024This role sits in Upper Merion PAJob Description:The Director, External Manufacturing Procurement plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing GSK's procurement strategies for large molecule and vaccine drug substances from our external network.
This key role will be at the forefront of managing partnerships with Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs), ensuring that GSK develops strategies that align with our commitment to patient care, company growth, cost targets and environmental sustainability.
The director will develop and maintain external market knowledge and serve as a key representative to the external industry.
The role will engage with senior internal and external stakeholders to understand business requirements, use market intelligence to develop strategies, lead supplier negotiations, and deliver solutions to support GSK's supply chains. This role sits on the leadership team of the Senior Director, External Manufacturing Procurement and is a key advisor of the GSK global external manufacturing strategy.Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans for large molecule and vaccines drug substance manufactured externally, ensuring alignment with GSK's overall supply strategy.Lead contract negotiations and manage ongoing contracts with CMOs for both commercial production and late-phase clinical products.Gather and analyze market intelligence to benchmark the CMO landscape, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.Cultivate relationships with key internal stakeholders to support GSK's business strategy and communicate supply chain insights.Forge and maintain strong strategic relationships with CMO's to support robust category strategies and network design decisions.Set financial budgets for contract manufacturing, incorporating pricing negotiations and volume forecasting.Establish and monitor CMO performance metrics, promoting continuous improvement.Deliver contracts that emphasize value creation, critical terms, and effective cost control.Optimize the CMO portfolio to maintain a network of providers aligned with GSK's network needs.Manage the commercial risk profile of our CMO network, ensuring alignment with GSK's business continuity plans.Uphold procurement policies and compliance standards, including third-party risk management and ensuring capacity availability.Lead a team of category managers in support of the team's objectives.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in supply chain, procurement or a relevant technical field.8+ years' experience in the procurement and management of large molecule and vaccine CMO's.5+ years' experience in the sourcing and procurement of CMO services for large molecule bulk drug substance5+ years' experience developing and executing sourcing strategies across various geographies and supply chains.3+years' experience leading global/regional projects across matrixed teams.Preferred Qualifications:Masters degree in business administration, supply chain, procurement or a relevant technical field.The ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external networksExcellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong project and change management skills.Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.Please visit
