The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) works to support networks, schools, and families with all issues related to special education including instruction, interventions, and legal and compliance support. OSD provides the tools and resources to ensure that all diverse learners receive a high-quality public education that prepares students for success. Diverse Learners in our district refers to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. OSD supports networks, schools, and families with all issues related to special education, including instruction, interventions, and legal and compliance support.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Assessment and Assignment, the School Assignment Manager is responsible for managing school assignments for students with disabilities (Preschool - 12th grade) who require a specialized school assignment for a specific program based on the supports and services required per the IEP. This position will ensure that students with disabilities are assigned to schools that will be able to implement the Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or 504 Plans.

The School Assignment Manager will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

Implementation and oversight of the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) school assignment policies and proceduresEffectively develop and communicate clear processes and procedures related to school assignment to all stakeholders (parents, case managers, teachers, school administration, network chiefs, and OSD partners)Hire, supervise, develop, and manage the performance of the School Assignment Team in thorough review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 PlansPartner with multiple stakeholders (e.g., SSM Team, Data Strategy, IT) to create and maintain processes that inform and guide School Assignment Team prioritiesCollaborate and interact effectively with CPS departments (e.g. Transportation, Early Childhood, Academic Enhancement, Teaching and Learning, ITS, etc.) regarding school assignment needsDevelop and facilitate training for school-based and OSD staff regarding school assignment procedural changes to ensure transparency with all stakeholdersEffectively manage school enrollment database to track, monitor, and report the timeliness and appropriateness of school assignmentsOther duties and work streams as assignedIn order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the School Assignment Manager must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityMaster's degree is preferredValid Professional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education with an Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1)Experience Required:

Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience supporting large-scale district-wide Pre-K-12 educational processes and/or programs requiredCase management and/or school assignment experience requiredExperience reviewing and/or supporting IEPs and 504 plans requiredExperience managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment requiredExperience working with students and families of culturally diverse backgrounds requiredOther Requirements:

Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency

- Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19

- Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
