Under the direct supervision of an Accounting Administrator I, the Accountant Trainee is responsible for completing duties required for processing Statewide travel expenses and other employee claims, resolving travel payment issues and transaction errors, utilizing section databases, electronic spreadsheets, and electronic data upload processes to facilitate timely and accurate payments, and completing expenditure adjustments.
In addition, the position serves in a back-up capacity for other travel related accounting functions.The Accountant Trainee must utilize a mainframe system as well as personal computer, including database and other software.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Accountant Trainee exam. Working Conditions
Position located in Sacramento, Sacramento County.

This is a Limited Term position which may be extended to 24 months or become permanent.
While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. Most employees will work in workstations within shared cubicles. Working hours will be set sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Overtime may be required, and vacations may be restricted during peak times
fiscal year-end closing. Employees may be required to travel in state, but the travel it is not very frequent.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate .
