Job Title: Middle School Newspaper Sponsor
Job Summary:
The Middle School Newspaper Sponsor will oversee and guide students in the production of the school newspaper, fostering a passion for journalism, writing, and media literacy. This role involves mentoring students as they develop their reporting, editing, and communication skills while promoting an understanding of current events and school activities.
Key Responsibilities:Leadership and Mentorship:Lead and inspire students in the art of journalism, from writing articles to understanding ethical reporting.Provide guidance and support to students in their individual and group projects.
Club Meetings and Activities:Organize and conduct regular newspaper club meetings to brainstorm story ideas, assign tasks, and discuss progress.Facilitate workshops on writing, editing, and layout design.
Content Creation:Oversee the production of the school newspaper, including the planning, writing, editing, and publishing processes.Encourage students to explore various topics, including school events, local news, and student interests.
Skill Development:Teach students essential journalism skills, including interviewing, research techniques, and multimedia storytelling.Provide constructive feedback on student work to help them improve their writing and reporting skills.
Community Engagement:Promote the newspaper within the school community and encourage submissions from the wider student body.Collaborate with teachers and staff to feature relevant articles and stories.
Administrative Duties:Manage the newspaper budget and resources, including printing and distribution.Maintain records of student participation and contributions to the newspaper.
Collaboration:Work with other faculty members to incorporate journalism topics into classroom lessons and activities.Explore partnerships with local media outlets or organizations for guest speakers and workshops.
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Education, Journalism, English, or a related field preferred.Experience in journalism or advising student publications is highly desirable.Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.Passion for teaching students the importance of media literacy and effective communication.Personal Attributes:
