Texas A&M University College of Medicine has engaged AMN Healthcare to conduct a national search for a Department Head, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The successor will build on the department's successes and further develop and execute a growth strategy that leverages the talents of faculty and staff. The Organization

The Texas A&M University College of Medicine is the largest of five health professions schools within Texas A&M Health, one of the most comprehensive academic health centers in the nation. The School is headquartered in Bryan-College Station and also has clinical campuses in Dallas, Houston, and Round Rock. Numerous other clinical teaching sites across the state are utilized to educate medical students, including those in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, and the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Cavazos as well as several rural sites. In addition, the School's sponsored graduate medical education programs in family medicine, sports medicine, geriatrics, and psychiatry - and a rapidly growing number of affiliated residency and fellowship programs - are populating communities in Texas with hundreds of Aggie Doctors annually.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine, the incoming Department Head, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will serve as the chief administrative officer of the department and will be based in Bryan-College Station. As a key leader at the School, the department head will provide exemplary leadership to a department that is committed to excellence in clinical care, education, and research. In addition to the administrative responsibilities described, the department head will actively participate in sponsored research and/or the delivery of clinical care.

This new leader will be responsible for the development and supervision of faculty and staff and for the oversight, planning, and administration of the department's operations and budget. The position includes clinical and/or research duties in addition to the administrative and academic roles and responsibilities necessary to advance the mission of the department and School. The department head conducts annual evaluations of faculty and makes recommendations on faculty appointments, reappointments, promotions, changes in faculty status, conferral of tenure, approval and renewal of faculty leave, and dismissals. The position also provides leadership and support for a broad range of initiatives, which include:

Establishing and growing psychiatric and psychological care initiatives in collaboration with Texas A&M Health, Texas A&M University, and its numerous clinical partners.Engaging in strategic planning for the department, including the further development of extramurally funded research programs that align with the areas of emphasis of the School, Texas A&M Health, and Texas A&M University.In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, interfacing with new and established psychiatry GME programs and sponsoring institutions affiliated with the School to build and strengthen relationships.Supporting and promoting the participation of the department's faculty in the medical education programs of the School.Expanding the School's psychiatric and psychological care service line into new markets while utilizing the latest innovative care delivery modalities.

The Ideal Candidate

Applications will be accepted at the rank of Clinical Professor (Academic Professional Track/Non-Tenure) or Tenured Professor, commensurate with qualifications. (Tenure Review upon Hire)

The College of Medicine's expectations for holding a tenured/tenured-track position include effective undergraduate and graduate classroom teaching

mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral students, particularly recruiting and mentoring of doctoral students and guiding them through graduation in a timely manner

establishment of a sustainable research program through external funding

publication of papers with students in venues that demonstrate impact

, and providing a degree of service to Texas A&M University and the professional community.

Required

MD, MD/PhD, DO or equivalent professional degree.Board certification in their clinical specialty.Preferred

Clinical Experience

Five or more years of clinical patient care experience: Proven track record in providing psychiatric care.

Teaching and Educational Experience:

Five or more years of teaching, developing, evaluating, or leading educational programs: Experience in undergraduate or graduate medical education.

Research and Scholarly Activities

Active Research Interests: Experience in research activities from personal research record and/or encouraging faculty engagement in scholarly activities and securing research funding.Program-building capabilities: Demonstrated ability to lead the expansion of departmental research programs.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

Visionary Leadership: The expertise that demonstrates the ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for the department.Collaborative and Inclusive Environment: Fostering innovation and excellence.Management of ACGME-Accredited Programs: Overseeing residency and fellowship programs.
