Description

The Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences seeks applications for the position of Tenured Professor and Head of the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology. This is a full-time, 11-month tenured appointment with an anticipated start date of August/September 2024. Applicants must have academic qualifications and accomplishments to qualify for appointment as a tenured Professor. Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Department Head serves as the chief administrative officer of the department and provides leadership in promoting the department’s academic excellence and nurturing the professional advancement of faculty, staff and students. The department head serves on the Executive Committee of the School and on the Board of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. As a key leader at the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, the new Head will be expected to build on the successes of prior leadership, leveraging the talents of faculty, staff, and students, to chart continued success and increase the national and international reputation of the Department’s research, patient care, and educational endeavors. The Department Head is expected to work collaboratively with the School’s Executive Committee to advance the academic excellence of the School and the University. All tenured and tenure-track faculty members are expected to make significant contributions in the areas of scholarly research/ creative work, teaching, and service.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a DVM, PhD, DVM/PhD, or equivalent degree and a record of scholarship commensurate with appointment as a tenured Professor of the School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. The successful candidate must have a record of an extramurally-funded research program, as well as an international reputation in their discipline, and a record of teaching excellence. Experience in veterinary diagnostic services is highly preferred. The successful candidate must also have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in mentoring trainees and junior faculty. Candidates must have prior experience in directing research and educational programs and should have demonstrated leadership qualities commensurate with directing an academic unit such as effective communication, vision, resourcefulness, collaboration, and being an active advocate for the faculty and staff they represent. Since the Department Head has administrative, financial, and operational responsibilities, the successful candidate should have a record of commitment to a culture of institutional stewardship and transparency and efficient and effective business operations.
