The
Director of the AppELS Institute
will provide vision and leadership to support English language learners in Boone, Hickory, and the surrounding region. The AppELS director will oversee the development of a community-based English language program, including program and curriculum development, strategic planning, recruitment and marketing, and the development of policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities of the position include:
Provide community-based ESL courses and collaborate with community partners to provide ESL classes to a diverse community of English learners at the Boone and Hickory campusesParticipate in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Culture's (Teaching English Speakers Other Languages) TESOL minor
Teach one course per year in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and CulturesSupport service learning activities associated with community-based ESL courses offered by the AppELS program
Collaborate with community organizations and educators to inform the community on pathways to Higher EducationHire, supervise, train and evaluate any instructional and support staff that may eventually be hiredConduct meetings and workshops for communication and professional growth or arrange external professional development as neededCreate and implement strategic planning initiatives that align with the university, the College, and the department, and track initiativesDevelop and implement policies and procedures to ensure consistency in the delivery of all programsConsult with relevant academic and campus administrative departments as neededCollaborate with the College of Art and Sciences Counsel, Office of International Programs, and other relevant units as neededType of PositionFull Time Position
