PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Elementary Curriculum provides leadership and campus support for the advancement of student achievement throughout all elementary content areas. The director monitors, oversees and leads the development of curricula and assessments to support campuses, and ensures alignment of assessments.
The Director of Elementary Curriculum must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees
and overall district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:Master's degree in content and/or related field from an accredited college or universityFive years' experience in curriculum and instruction at the campus and/or district levelAt least three years' administrative experience at a campus and/or district levelPreferred:
Five years' experience as a classroom teacherValid Texas teacher certificationPrincipal or mid-management certificationSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Knowledge of learning theory, program planning, curriculum development and management of instructional programsKnowledge in assigned content areas, including writing instruction and literacy skills/conceptsKnowledge of grade level promotion and graduation requirementsAbility to collect, analyze and interpret dataAbility to develop and supervise teamsAbility to provide direction for campus leadershipAbility to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectivenessAbility to coordinate district functionsExcellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skillsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Provides leadership and supervision for Elementary Curriculum Department.Direct the implementation of Pre-kindergarten through grade 5 core content curricula across the district.Assist with coaching teachers and administrators in the critical attributes of curriculum, instruction and student engagement.Understand the correlation between college and career readiness standards in alignment with state curriculumArticulate understanding of local, state and federal accountability systems and special programs.Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to improve student engagement and achievement.Model, coach and commit to personal improvement in instructional best practices and techniques.Design and coordinate content support for campuses in lesson design and instructional engagement and practices using the Spring Way framework.Plan and provide effective, professional, content-based learning activities based on analysis of data for teachers and administrators.Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy.Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.Articulate the district's goals and needs to the community and solicit its support in reaching those goals.Build capacity in staff to access, interpret and act effectively on data to inform curricular and instructional decisionsManage communication between staff and the Curriculum and Instruction Department.Advocate, facilitate and monitor the alignment, instruction, and assessment improvement in the accomplishment of the district's literacy goals.Serve as a support for campus walk-throughs.Serve as a collaborative partner with elementary Assistant Superintendents.Assist schools in securing appropriate instructional materials.Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.Work collaboratively across all Spring ISD departments.Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business.Perform all other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to manage time in ways that allows deadlines to be met; ability to use technology and coach teachers in technology use for programs and resources; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
