Physical Therapist
An educational based physical therapists evaluates and treats children from age 3 to 18 who have problems moving and performing other physical activities. The physical therapists work with children and the school staff to assist each child in reaching their maximum potential to function independently and to promote active participation in the school environment.
Essential job responsibility of the physical therapist include:
Evaluates student’s functional abilities and disabilities and identifies impairments that impact their function within the educational setting.• Determines eligibility of service as appropriate.• Identifies measurable functional goals and develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the student, school staff and family.• Participates in development of all educational reports and attends meetings when appropriate.• Implements treatment plan and adjusts treatment goals and intervention based on need.• Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and or carrying of objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.• Trains school staff in proper safety techniques for transfers and positioning needs of students with physical limitations.• Participates in walking, running, jumping, standing, bending, stooping and sitting in order to provide demonstration for students of the specific targeted skill desired.• Utilizes personal gross and fine motor skills of the upper and lower extremities in order to ensure safety of students who may demonstrate unpredictable movements.• Assesses the need for equipment (orthotics/mobility devices/standers etc.) appropriate for the student to participate functional within their school environment.• Maintains the fit and integrity of the equipment needed.• Provides education and training to the student, teacher, and school staff regarding the proper management and positioning of equipment.• Maintains all required documentation and progress monitoring according to specific program systems for the physical therapy service provided.• Provides classroom monitoring and individual services to teachers and students in both special and general education.• Communicates with school staff, LEA and parents regarding concerns.• Travel via personal vehicle to various job site throughout assigned area in order to provide physical therapy services to eligible students.• Participate in continuing education to maintain state license.Qualifications
