Part-Time Van Driver
The Driver works cooperatively with the Supervisor of Transportation, the Transportation Coordinator, as well as parents, principals, teachers, instructional assistants, and other drivers in all matters related to the transportation of school students and personnel. The Van Driver has the responsibility for driving his/her van as safely and efficiently as possible, and performs all duties as listed below.
Essential Functions:
Knows and obeys all traffic laws; maintains a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.Checks work email twice daily and communicates effectively with department.Maps out assigned route efficiently and communicates all necessary information to parents/guardians. Identifies any improvement opportunities and reports them to the Transportation Coordinator and/or Lead Driver in charge of routing.Submits incident and accident reports timely to the Supervisor of Transportation and Coordinator.Performs mandatory pre-trips before and after each operation for mechanical defects and notifies the office of any issues or damage to the vehicle.Assists children in and out of the van and their securements.Only discharges students at authorized stops to an authorized parent, guardian, or program representative.Only transports assigned students and personnel.Enforces all Bucks IU regulations on the van.Understands and complies to all policies and procedures as stated in the Transportation handbook.Assists, when called upon, with any emergency.Ensures maintenance compliance and maintains a van clean.Attends all required training as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.Immediately notifies Human Resources and Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed.This position description does not express or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent(s) in this position. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Physically able to install/operate equipment needed for assigned route. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee will be subject to outside environmental conditions with moderate noise level. Visual acuity with or without vision aids, ability to distinguish colors. Be free of impairment of the use of a foot, leg, hand, finger, or an arm, or other structural defects of limitations likely to interfere with the ability to safely control of vehicle. Depressing fuel and brake pedal with right foot and leg requiring 70 psi. Steps to enter and exit vehicles, step down 3.5 feet to exit emergency door.
