PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The role of the Dean of Instruction is to coordinate curriculum and instruction and to implement and support all activities that address teacher acquisitions of district curriculum designs and special funded programs appropriate to student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

TEA certification requirements

Certified classroom teacher

Texas Mid-Management or Principal certificate required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledgeable of instructional curriculum, instructional strategies and practices

Experience:

Three years of classroom teacher experience required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Assist the principal in assigning teachers to the appropriate classes.Assist the principal in creating and implementing an effective new teacher mentoring program at the campus level.Identify appropriate training for teachers to effectively deliver the needed instruction.Schedule staff into appropriate district, state, national or campus training and secure the consultants when necessary.Coordinate the evaluation and revision of the campus improvement plan with the SBDM chairperson and committee.Effectively implement the instructional delivery of special programs designed to close the achievement gap of the students in at-risk situations.Assist the principal in aligning campus budget allocations in the area of academic excellence.Assist the principal to establish and implement the system which monitors the effective delivery of instruction aligned to the TEKS and College Board standards.Coordinate the district and state assessments aligned to the implementation of the TEKS.Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.Attend LPAC trainings as required to ensure proper LPAC requirements/procedures are met.Works with teachers, principals, and program coordinator to plan and schedule tutorial assignments.Coordinate and oversee Title I programs on campus including parental involvement, migrant, AR, etc.Coordinate and conduct campus planning sessions.Collaborate with Asst. Principal for support services to:Supervise tutorial sessions.

Schedule in-service activities and training of tutors.

Report students served and keep tutors' time record and submit payroll.

Assist teachers and tutors in identifying needs of those being tutored.

Screen and select tutors using stated criteria.

Maintain necessary data and submit a monthly report.

Evaluate the performance of tutors and make necessary changes based on results.

Supervise the identification of students on free and reduced lunches.Professional Growth and Development

Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.Participate in T-TESS and T-PESS trainings as required by the district.School /Community Relations

Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.Communicate with principals and administrative team.Communicate with staff through campus planning and weekly newsletter.Other
